Now, it is possible to win a wrestling match, or a track & field event with only one person out there, in fact that is all you get to put out there at one time. In wrestling, you can even win without competition, it's called a forfeit.

Wrestling is a team sport comprised of individuals. There is a team score, therefore technically it is a team sport. Unlike other team sports though, it allows for individual accomplishments. A person can be on a lousy wrestling team and can still be a state champ. Compare that to any traditional team sport, where a lousy team with a great player has no chance at a state championship. It doesn't make the team concept less meaningful to the team itself, but allows an individual to succeed where normally they wouldn't. The term team has a great many meanings and is used in a variety of ways to describe sporting competitions.

In no way, shape, or form am I argueing whether basketball is better than wrestling. You guys are side tracking from the team oriented arguement! I have and have had several friends who have wrestled and I know what guts, commitment, determination, and passion for the sport is needed. I am in no way trying to downplay or lessen the sports significance at all!

I am just argueing whether or not it's a team sport. BUT, I just thinking that the comment made about the greatest winter sport was a comment that didn't need to be thrown out there. Along with cardinal-colored-glasses and pumpkin pushers....all a sign of childish remarks. And I still don't think of wrestling as a team sport.

Kobe, I'm not going to fight with you. You need to just let it go. I made some playful remarks along the lines that wrestlers and basketball players have been making for decades, and only someone looking for a fight would ever dream of being upset by them.

But I hereby give you permission to be grieviously offended, since it seems to mean a lot to you.

well i guess its possible... but the opposing team would be required to have no people to win with one person, lol

I am talking about a single match, not a team match.

Kobe, I have a million things I could say to you about this entire incident, but I won't. You have totally misunderstood and misjudged my character, my intentions and my words. And you have completely erred in assessing what my actions would be in a situation similar to yours.

You don't really seem to know me at all. Thus, I won't defend myself to you. I don't have to.
