Looking at some of the top talent in Wisconsin for High School Girls Basketball why isn't the University of Wisconsin Women's Basketball recruiting some of this talent. Marquette and Green Bay due, but Iowa is doing better up here recruiting then Wisconsin.

Not a single one of the top 50 rated senior girls in the state will be attending WI to play basketball next year.

I've asked this in other threads but...WTF? Does the coaching staff just not make Wisconsin a priority?

They do, but there are many issues I think that play a factor.

First, it's not a winning program - tough to recruit top talent when you are rebuilding. Looking at the last top recruit that made her choice (Arike O from DSHA) - would you rather play at Wisconsin, a below average Big Ten WBB school that has terrible attendance, or Notre Dame - a school that is Top 5 every year (almost a guarantee you will play in the Final Four for WBB), also, Notre Dame WBB attendance is strong.

Attendance is huge, Wisconsin draws terribly for home games. Now the other schools aren't drawing to the lengths that MBB draws, but still way more than Bucky.

Obviously not. There are plenty of very talented WI girls that could at least contribute to that team.

With the lure that UW has for boys in FB and BBall to build those types of programs for girls would be awesome but do they want to get there? Maybe the success of the VB team is a start in that direction.

This used to be pretty much the same situation that the Wisc Women's Softball team suffered from.
YES - I do think the coaching staff is the problem.
I never understood why they let Kathi Bennett get away.
We used to go watch the UW-Oshkosh games when she had them as a power in D-3.
Those were great games to watch. The gym was packed and if you didn't get there
early, you didn't get in. Being a 'guy' who grew up at a time when there was no girls/womens
basketball, I was impressed as heck.

They seem to think they needed to pick a coach that had played on an NCAA championship team(Stanford).
I am sure this woman means well, but I don't think she can recruit the TOP talent from Wisc, Ill, Minn, etc to Madison.
She can get 'players' but she seems to strikeout with Wisc TOP talent almost 100%
She comes across to me as as about as exciting as burnt toast.

Should the UW make more of an effort to get the WIAA girls games back in Madison? Does that matter in the eyes of a recruit?

Look at Marquette and Wisconsin Men's they recruit players. The Wisconsin Women's program needs to do something different cause nothing really has worked and lots of talent from the state that they don't get.
