Did you ever notice how many different leagues and teams there are in Wisconsin?

I hadn't heard of any league other than the Ironman Football League until now. Since they're the only league that Muskego has a team in that will be the only league I follow. Although thankfully there are other semi-pro leagues that are designed for men (and maybe some women) who want to continue to play competitive football.

I think it is pretty cool to see some of these guys taking part in these leagues. I know in the IFL, they have a guy on Muskego who played at Florida...another team had Warren Holloway at receiver...he played at Iowa and caught a game winning touchdown pass from Drew Tate in a bowl game just a few years back.

I think something like this would be cool if there were semi-pro basketball leagues around and think it would work well if they happened during the summer as well.

Yes. Markell Thompson was the guy from Florida for the Hitmen and Warren Holloway was a Muskego Hitmen player in 2008. He did not return with the team this year however.

I was only aware 2 of the leagues, due to Upper Michigan involvement. The Wisconsin State Football League ( because of Menominee/Marinette), and mostly the Northern Elite Football League, because they have a team from the U.P.
I've only caught one game last year (Green Bay vs U.P.), and it was very enjoyable and well played by both teams.

Speaking of "semi-pro", the roots of football in Wisconsin go back very very deep to the 1800's. There is a book out that is titled something like "Before they were the Packers" (I think it's titled that ?) where many communities in Wisconsin and the U.P. had their own football teams, and the fans and players utilized this railroad network that extended from Milwaukee, up to Green Bay, to Marinette/Menominee and east to Escanaba/Gladstone and westward to Iron Mountain/Kingsford, and Stambaugh, and I remember Rhinelander was involved also.

I can't remember if it was in this book I read where before they became a "professional" team, but Green Bay lost to Beloit (apparently got homered pretty bad by the refs) but what was funny was Beloit's football team was called the "Fighting Fairies."

it is kinda cool with the leagues and guys still playing. personally i wouldn't play because of the injury factor. granted i'm only 21 but at this point is it really worth getting hurt? (keep in mind i've torn both of my acl's so i've have my share of injuires). and i couldn't imagine getting hurt and explaining to my boss
