Is the the same overrated team that ND struggled to beat?

The number of ranked teams played should be calculated off current rankings, not rankings when they played.  A few people once thought VT was the #24 team in the country, they were wrong.  Same goes for Stanford being number 7.

ND played 3 ranked teams.

Michigan
NW
Syracuse

OSU played 3 ranked teams

Michigan
NW
Penn State

The 2 common opponents they had. OSU won by an average of 22.  ND won by an average of 8.5

I hate OSU more than anyone on this board, but I struggle to see how ND deserves to be in over OSU, OU, or Georgia.

When you say one team "took care of business" and another didn't, you sound like the people who think UCF should get in.  Two teams don't have the same business, so stop pretending like it.

After seeing Georgia play yesterday, the absolutely deserve to be in.  I would give the 4th spot to OK.

My top 4 would go Bama, Georgia, OU, Clemson

I saw this same line stated a lot over the weekend, and I personally hate that line of reasoning. It really gets into the "eye test" which I'm beginning to despise. Georgia nearly beat the Alabama, but they didn't. As a result, they are a 2 loss team that didn't win their conference.

Are we trying to put the 4 most talented teams into the playoff or the 4 most deserving teams? If it is the former, my affection for college football is going to wane drastically.

I have said this every year.  There should be a playoff!  Watching the playoffs for the lower divisions is a lot of fun.  Watching mediocre bowl games is not fun.  Do the Badgers deserve a bowl game this year?  I would say no.  I think the bowl and the opponent they received is a perfect metaphor for the Badgers season...a football game in a baseball field and underachieving.

Once again, Notre Dame showed they’re not elite and had no business being in the playoff. Only silver lining is that maybe going forward the committee will start treating ND like UCF, Boise St, or other non power 5 teams until they actually join a conference.

I tend to agree...but maybe Clemson was just that good this year?
