It is quite obvious that Weis will be out in the near future. Who do you think are the replacements?

I heard Brian Kelly out there, which wouldn't surprise me. But what about Gary Patterson from TCU, or Chris Peterson from Boise St?

Charlie Weis will make an awesome offensive coordinator somewhere also.

I heard the name Bob Stoops from Oklahoma in the discusion the other day. Would be a great fit for him

i don't see him leaving a recruiting hotbed right next to texas for indiana.

i can see a gimmick coach like mike leech to create excitement about the program. I don't think this will happen but they might be looking for that big name...kinda like they did with Weis. I think gotspine got probably the list that they are looking for.

Just gonna throw this out there and I doubt it would happen, but maybe Cowher would be a good fit there?

yeah but it's not Indiana kids hes recruiting...this is Notre Dame...hes recruiting every corner of the country

but not every hs senior wants to go 20 hours away from home. plus with higher academic standards at ND, it isn't like they aren't recruiting players from around the country, but not necessarily the players that they would really want

"Son, what are you doing sleeping in my daughter's dormroom?"
-"Uhhhhh, i got to go, im late for class."
-"Its Saturday morning."
-"Then im really late for class. Where are my pants?"

UNC's Butch Davis is an apparent front runner to take the job. He has not done anything since his time at Miami but who knows.

Except he has resurrected a North Carolina program and has put them on the map in a number of different areas. UNC was a pretty poor program before Butch Davis came along... He has brought in some stacked classes, has been a pioneer in increasing attendance in Chapel Hill, and has brought along experience as a proven winner on the college level to go along with a lot of connections in the professional ranks.

He has brought up UNC from a pretty poor program, to a decent program. I think there are better coaches out there then Davis.

I'm not going to quote everybody so...

Like said previously, Notre Dame gets everyone from Hawaii to Florida and everywhere in between. Bob Stoops would have a field day recruiting these guys.

UNC is still only a decent program. Sure, they are talented, but they are a middle of the road ACC team, following behind Va Tech, Clemson, BC, Georgia Tech, and Miami in recent years. And FSU always appears to be right there but just haven't gotten it together.

I doubt Notre Dame had a "plan" for Stoops and Meyer. It would make NO sense for Meyer to leave Florida. He is the biggest fish in one of the biggest ponds. That would be like Pete Carrol or Mack Brown taking the Notre Dame job.

Gary Patterson just signed a long term deal with TCU. Hopefully, for the MWC's purpose, Boise St goes there, because that would probably land them an automatic bid, with TCU, Utah, Boise St, and BYU all in the same conference. Heck, even Nevada can cause teams a fit.

It seems that Notre Dame would want a coach to lead them that has been a head coach before. So my proposal for Charlie Strong is out the window. Right now, it looks like the only targets for Notre Dame appears to be Brian Kelly, Butch Davis, and Bob Stoops. I still think the Fighting Irish can do better then Kelly and Davis though. We'll see what happens

You can't say that the Weis did a bad job..... Their offense is so good and defensively they are very young but have talent.... Tough to build both sides of the ball in 5 years (4 really because he came in late and couldn't recruit)....

Who would ever of thought that 2 of USC's top recruits this past year (Manti Teo & Shaq Evans) that they thought they had ended up going to ND.... Should've gave Charlie the benefit of the doubt but ND must have a plan....

Weis was horrible.

Defense wins championships, not offense. Past winners, all have had defense: Florida, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, USC. All of those teams had top defenses the year(s) they won the championship.

As for building both sides of the ball... Did you forget that Weis had some pretty good offensive players already in place when he showed up? Brady Quinn was not a bad QB in college if I remember correctly.

And as for needing more than 5 years, in some cases yes. At schools like Oregon, or Arizona, or South Carolina, or Wisconsin, it is expected for it to take a coach a number of years before they start winning championships. At Notre Dame, they expect to compete yearly for one, and the ND officials feel that they should be doing so.

Weis did more harm to Notre Dame than Ty W did. Atleast Ty left some experienced starters in place, more than can be said about Fat Chuck.
The Brewers will finish 90-72 and earn the #1 WC berth.

Carlos Gomez will have a 30/40 season (HR/SB) and win a 2nd Gold Glove en route to an All Star selection.

Any chance of South Bend native Jon Gruden taking over the helm of the Irish? Gruden, as a possibility, came up here & there during the latter third the season but I haven't seen him mentioned anywhere recently. Does his lack of college head coaching experience (specifically, recruiting) make him less attractive? Personally, with his energy, enthusiasm & communication skills, I think Gruden would be better suited as a college coach & would be a great recruiter. I think young players with the same level of energy & enthusiasm would really respond to someone like Gruden. Opinions? Thoughts? Insights?
