I am not embarassed to be a fan of the Badger football team in general, but generally speaking they are year in and year out overrated. As you so eloquently referenced to Barry Alvarez, the Badgers will struggle to be a "powerhouse". A powerhouse in the Big Ten is struggle enough. Big games, win a couple but not all. The last two home games have been nothing short of a nightmare. The problem is not just the schedule, which is weak every year but I'm not ready to go there, it's not just the coaches, it's not just the players, it's just not the recruiting. It is everything collectively as a whole. Since 2000, five Big Ten teams have been to the Tournament of Roses better known as the Rose Bowl. Three of those times it has been Michigan, in all five contests The Big ten has not won. I may be finally ready to conceed the Big Ten, or the mediocre 11 as I sometime refer to them as, may be a weak conference. So this makes Wisconsin's situation even worse. I think Wisconsin needs a new face calling the shots. Bret has recruited some athletes, but what has happened to the Eric Gibson's, the Joe Pano's and Tom Bruke's of the world. We are more soft defensively than we were in Darrell Bevell's final season. Paul Chryst needs to be shown the door, I'm sorry you are no longer in the "Run and Shoot" Pac 10 anymore with Oregon State. You have not been recruited the tall strong reciever's to succeed in this offense. Ala Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmanzadeh. Who is our defensive coordinator? Did they find him at Wando's or the Church Key? Cripes, Marshall had us on the ropes in week 2 and we let a team that got beat by Toledo run the train on us in Michigan. Times are weak and meager in Madison and there is some solutions to fixing the problem. Recruit bigger guys, go back to our offense of old with a flashy guy like Johnny Clay, or home grown Bradie Ewing , run with huge lineman. They will flourish. Don't be afraid to schedule tough non conference opponents. Yes, you might lose but if you stay close or even win a couple of those games and run the table in the Big Ten you will find yourself in a good bowl game garunteed. Put a Defense on the field that will punish other teams, if the guys you have now cant tackle find some. I am sure there are freshman who can play just as worse as the defense we have now but at least they would be getting experience. Lastly have a team the state is happy with that will "beat down" weaker opponents and defend the home turf. We need a image similar to the old blackshirts of Nebraska. A "take no crap" ego that will provide a swagger opponents will be scared to face. Until this is accomplished it may be rough going in Mad town. This years election may get more of a hype than a home Badger game ...

Couldn't agree with you more!!!!

I can't stand how wisconsin is playing right now! They have a defense that is a complete joke and probably couldn't stop some of wisonsin's high school teams offenses! An O-Line that is just a bunch of big cupcakes that can't push anybody around. They have an offensive coordinator that must be watching game tapes of another team, cuz he hasn't done anything to correct the offense and get them scoring and making long drives again. I'm just have no clue what is up with wisconsin, but it better change fast or a lot of people in Mad Town are gonna be awefully angry next couple seasons. I just hope they can salvage something from this so far awful season.

How quickly we forget Paul Chryst taking this offense from average at best to consecutive seasons of 30+ points per game. Chryst and the offense have not been the problem this year, despite a couple meek showings recently. A defense that has no toughness and no pride is what has killed us. Chryst is a great coordinator and will be a head coach soon. Rather than running him out the door we need to enjoy him while we can. Calling for his head is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay premature.

it's not premature at all. he's so predictable and idiotic and it's just pathetic. chryst only calls about 7 different plays all game and people expect them to win? Watch the badgers inside the 5 yard-line and watch how many times they pull guards and get stuffed on slow developing run plays when they should be ramming straight ahead for 6. I absolutely hate pulling lineman inside the 5 yard-line because it just slows everything down and usually leads to unsuccessful plays, yet chryst will do it 85% of the time on runs (most of which are unsuccessful) because he's so predictable and stupid. People need to realize that the talent that was on those teams 2-3 years ago played a HUGE role in putting up 30+ pts a game, not paul chryst's supposed brilliant play calling. It's time for him to be shown the door.

What I would do with the Badgers this season is starting to focus on next year.

Illinois, Michigan State, and unfortunately, Minnesota will all more than likely beat UW. UW will not make a bowl, If they do, it'll be the Motor City Bowl, maybe the Insight.com bowl, and if it's the Insight.com bowl, they'll play a Big12 team........ Not a good ending.
A Playoff will not be any more fair than the BCS.
No matter what happens, Favre > Rodgers.
St. Louis Cardinals = Class of MLB.
Carlos Gomez is the new Nyjer Morgan.....

The Badgers' quarterback play over the last few seasons has been very underrated. Bollinger, Stocco, and Donovan weren't great, but they did a solid job and didn't lose ball games. You can't blame Chryst for failing to open up the offense when he's working with a quarterback who struggles to hit open receivers in the flat.

I haven't given up of the Badgers. There are still winnable games and reasons to be excited, beginning with today's homecoming game vs. Illinois.
