Tuesday 1/20
Lomira
@ Mayville - The Lions are making noise in the Flyway

Horicon @ North Fondy - The Orioles are improving, give them the nod in the battle of orange and black

KML @ Laconia - Could it finally be time for the Spartans to lose a conference game? Table is set for the showdown and the Chargers seem to be stronger than in years past, but the Spartans get the home court advantage.

Friday 1/23
Springs
@ Horicon - The Ledgers will grind this one out.
KML @ Lomira - this game could be totally different than the first one, based on Lomira's improved play, but the Chargers may also be flying high if they pull off a win in "the pit" on Tuesday.

Laconia @ Mayville - Regardless of Tuesday's outcome, I see the Spartans winning this one comfortably.

North Fondy @ WLA - Vikings should be able to get things back on track.

No love for the spartans by any of you except mr. spartan himself. And Laconia blew them out of the water. KML has a very good team, but definately a level below the Laconia. Seminas is impressive and Kern is a great compliment. Seems like since that loss to Portage the team is playing on a mission. The rematch will be closer than this one was.

I hope they bring a different officiating crew to KML for the rematch. I am sure the commissioner
is looking into this. But back to the game. D. Semenas(sp?) was/is a stud. He flew under the radar
last year with Weed being the Sr. Now it is his team. Without him Laconia would be an average team. He can do it all and makes the other 4 players on the floor so much better with his ability to
penetrate and dish. Watching him last night made me wonder what would have happened if he would not have committed so soon to UW-Green Bay ? Big Ten schools ? Iowa, Purdue, Penn St.,
Wisconsin? Basketball is only part of the college equation but I believe he has the talent to play
in a middle/upper tier D1 instead of a bottom tier team. I can think of one off the bench Wi. player
that he is better than already................

"Would you rather be a big fish in a little sea, or a little fish in a big sea" ? That might explain it.

So next year in the Flyway who is the next Semenas, Koth ???

Why is it that so many of the KML people always make comments about how bad the officials are like every game? I am sure the conference commissioner isn't worried about it, because officials are rated by the coaches.

On another note, I wouldn't say UWGB is a small d1, they are 6-1 right now in a very good Horizon conference and have a shot at the tourny this year if they can beat out Butler or UWM. Plus, he will probably be able to get much more playing time at UWGB. Semenas is a good player and one of the better shooters this conference has seen.

I wouldn't say he is on the same level but Cody Jackson from WLA has put together some really nice games for the Vikings.

sounds a lot like a town just southwest of Mayville in the days of them getting dominated by Mayville...it was their only way of feelin better about themselves...lets take the regional championship game in Mayville as exhibit A...

The same regional championship game, where I turned to the umpire behind the mound and he told me that the home plate umpire pretty much screwed up the call?

I believe that was the same game you were 1-4 with 3 K's, and the only hit you got didn't even leave the infield? haha. I'm still not sure why Tjader was playing on the infield grass. It was pretty obvious you weren't going to be able to hit it to the outfield...

Smart play by Wozniak, horriffic call by the home plate umpire. But after I threw my glove at the umpire I pretty much stopped complaining.

I will be honest. I am a Spartan fan and have seen a bunch of Spartan games this year, and this is the worst officiating I have seen so far in my opinion. In my opinion the teams both had so many athletes and both teams are extremely quick yet physical. I don't think the refs could keep up with the athletes. Derek got hosed a couple of times on extremely questionable calls. Plus as a Spartan fan, it was nice to see Koth gets 2 fouls 1 minute into the game, but I can't say I even saw what they were. I am sure the officials were trying thier hardest but I can see why there is frustration.

I thought the key point was Laconia's fast start. With Koth on the bench Semenas and co. rolled to 9-0 lead. Laconia never looked back from there. It was fun to see the best 2 players in the conference go at it. Seemed as whenever one looked Semenas or Koth was at the free throw line. Both were held to a tad under their average. But the key in my opinion was the supporting cast. Laconia's other players clearly came to play. The win puts Sparty on top of the Flyway. I look foward to the rematch in Jackson if both teams roll through the rest of conference.

Kudos to you Spartans 16, you have hit it right on the head. And for a Laconia fan to admit the officiating was suspect, I would really not have blamed you if you didn't say a thing, but this is a class act.

I think that there were calls that went against both sides. The problem was the timing and how it affected the personnel on the court. It was a huge advantage for Laconia to get off to a great start, it set the tone for the game, KML would be working from behind the whole game. Again I commend that fact that you recognized

The speed of this game was light years ahead of these officials, it was obvious. Afterward it was discovered one official has only 3 years of experience....and that isn't on the varsity level...that is total. This game deserved better due to its influence on the outcome of the conference title. Funny thing is, there were no complaints about the JV officials....people don't complain just to complain. The commissioner wasn't there, but I'll guarantee you he got some calls from sources that know him pretty well.

In the end, I think Sparty wins this one anyway, they played better and you were absolutely correct, their supporting cast did KML in. Semenas and Koth got theirs, but the difference was KML did not look as relaxed as they have in 30+point wins over other conference foes. Credit Laconia for that and their home court advantage, it is a tough place to play.

Great post spartans 16, you saw the whole picture. Hopefully both teams can win out and it comes down to the final game on February 20 at KML, I'm sure the Chargers would like a shot on their home court to share the title.

Im not saying there were bad or not, I don't know. I wasn't there. I only meant that its hard to tell when after every game recap I read from KML, theres a part of how bad the officials are. Its been like 4 games in a row now.

I honestly don't know how many K's I had...but I do know my run won us the game...so it was the only AB that mattered...but like usual...making excuses and stories up again...typical horicon

The problem with trying to project Semenas in college is that so much of his game is based on penetration. That works great against 6-3 or 6-4 centers in the Flyway, but I don't know that it would really be successful against athletic 6-8 and taller Big Ten post players.

The thing that struck me last night was that KML's defense had a lot of breakdowns and Laconia's big guys were able to find the open spots. Laconia had 12 assists on 21 field goals and a lot of would-be assists that led to free throws. In the rematch KML can't over-focus on Semenas and allow him to just hit people on the block.
