                Marquette 35
West Allis Central 20

Marquette simply out-coached and out-classed WAC in this one.

Early on both teams moved the ball effectively on the ground with Marquette missing a FG and WAC scoring on an Ian Lee run.

It was back and forth 'til late in the 2nd quarter when with the score tied at 14...Marquette stuffed a WAC punt in WAC's territory...Marquette would block two WAC punts on the day, which isn't hard because the Bulldogs use a stupid quick kick formation featuring the punter only 7 yards behind the LOS.

WAC got a big stop, including a break-up of a sure TD pass to Grzesiak by Darrin Spencer. Marquette attempted a FG which was blocked by WAC's Chris Kruk with about a minute left.

Here's the turning point. WAC after throwing an incompletion on the first play, calls a counter criss-cross on 2nd down. This play is a high risk for a turnover as it involves a double handoff, and wouldn't ya know it, the second exchange is fumbled with Marquette's Peter Hebl recovering. Total bonehead play call. In a scenario which called for ball security it was just a stupid play call. Instead of going into halftime tied at 14 with the momentum and receiving the ball after half, WAC found themselves down after a Marquette TD run.

The 2nd half featured a stiffer Marquette defense (WAC could still move the ball, but Marquette made plays when they had to) and a defeated WAC defense, who struggled with tackling and maintaining the point of attack. With WAC spread out to stop the pass, Marquette just continued to pound the ball on the ground with great success.

The teams are very evenly matched but the coaching staffs are on different levels.

A reality check for a much better WAC team than what they showed today.
