As the brackets came out i seen Waukesha South is hosting the same sectional again for this comming season, just a few months after the WIAA learned how Ripon was treated there...... i personally wouldnt want to go back there after how one team was given a phy ed closet for a locker room. maybe the WIAA will make sure they treat both teams as good.

Well like i said ''the cage" is not as bad as they make it out to be in this article considering its where we had our pregame speeches and all that good stuff when i played there. As for the bathrooms i don't see why they would have to use the officials bathroom considering there was a girls bathroom no more than 15 feet away from the cage. It just seems a little over blown to me. Although the changing under the bleachers is pretty bad.

Thats the WIAA for ya. From all that I read and heard about WS hosting that game last year, they should never be able to host another sctional game period.

I'm not sure what the whole story is here. But the "phy ed closet" is far from a closet in fact its where every south team meets before a basketball game boys and girls.

The team made its way into the gym because the school had not set aside two locker rooms for the sectional final between Ripon and Grafton.

"We don't have anything," Peters said was the response from the school when asked where Ripon's locker room was.

One was set aside, apparently for the first team that arrived, and that was Grafton. According to Waukesha South athletic director Dan Domach, "We asked them go to to the locker room Grafton was in and go to the other side. They didn't go."

So Ripon changed underneath the bleachers, since the gym was basically empty. The other locker rooms were being used by the swimmers.

Then, the high school found a physical education storage room, about 10 feet by 20 feet with chicken wire walls, no bathrooms, no outlets and tin chairs for Ripon to have its pregame meeting in. If a player needed to use the bathroom, she had to go to the officials room and ask if she could use the bathroom.

"Our teams use the equipment room for a quiet area," Domach said. "Maybe I could've put them in a classroom."

The WIAA, Peters said, had nothing to do with this. It was all on Waukesha South.

"After the game I apologized again," Domach said. "I had a problem and I tried to fix the problem.
"It wasn't a good situation."

Ripon filed a complaint with the WIAA, and Deb Hauser, associate director of the WIAA, told Peters they should've been treated like royalty.

Schools know before a season tips off if they are to host a sectional or regional game.

Clearly that is not what he said. Perhaps you should re read his statement. [:-]

If South can use it for their sports teams there is no reason why Ripon shouldn't be able to use it as well.

The whole episode goes a little deeper than the use of a storage closet as a locker room...I think you are overlooking some key aspects of this incident.

A sectional is a big game, and a big responsibility, and South was, by their own admission, not quite prepared for it.

If you CHOOSE to use that for your teams thats fine. One would think that for a sectional game that the 2nd team to arrive would not be asked to put up with that. One could bet that this year no team will be asked to again.

That's fine if that's what the South teams are used to, but that doesn't mean a team in a Sectional Final has to deal with it as well. Just because they got there second, they didn't have a locker room or anything. And I remember the picture from the article in the paper. An absolute joke that they had to conduct their pre-game and halftime in a storage room.

When you played at South, did you DRESS in a locker room, under the bleachers, or in the chicken-wire storage room?

There are two points here:
1) Waukesha South, as host, was responsible for providing quality pre-game accommodations to both teams;

2) In the absence of #1, Waukesha South should have provided SIMILAR accommodations to both teams, whether it was giving each their own dressing room, chicken wire storage room, or classroom;

The sad part is Dan Domach, South AD, got hung out to dry on this. The basketball game was scheduled before he took over at South, and given the popularity of the South pool (one of the best facilities in the state), my guess is it was scheduled before he arrived as well. Mr. Domach was classy in accepting criticism for the oversight, but I do not think it was his fault.

I can't begin to tell what is all wrong with that statement. I'd attempt, but there wouldn't be enough deodorant for the conversation.

If it was fine with South sports, there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe it was a tradition or something. But it wasn't a tradition or anything that another school would be used to. To say Ripon should have just settled for it, well now, THAT'S a joke.

Much of this is being blown out of proportion. After checking with people at the south this might clear things up. The "cage" as south insiders call it is actually more like a team room where south teams meet for pregame chalk talks and halftime talks. It is not used as a locker room.
It is a private room however that has a bathroom connected to it. South teams have their own locker rooms to change in and then go the cage. Because of the large swim team competition that south was hosting last year there was a mix up or some level of miscommunication with locker room assignments.
Maybe it wasnt perfect but by no means did players need to change in the gym under bleachers AND in no way did it have anything to do with the outcome of the game!
