Well almost everybody believes that the sport they participate in is the toughest, but what sport really is? Is it football, running, soccer, basketball, water polo...

i can see how somebody would think that xc or track is the toughest but it isnt. it is tough and im not trying to take anything away from it but football is by far the toughest. when your'e playing both ways with no rest and going all out and getting railed it is easy to tell which is the toughest.

Def. not baseball. You really dont have to be in that great of shape comapred to sports such as basketball. The single hardest thing to do in sports though is to hit a baseball

I hear how everybody says football is such a tough sport, and I'm not saying it isnt but I dont believe it is harder than running distance. I believe that anybody could be good at football whether or not your that skilled, but if you arent a decent runner to begin with chances are slim that you can be good. And in response to the comment that football players run as much...there is no chance. If you are trying to tell me your football team runs 6 miles a day then you might as well go out for both sports. Not trying to bash football but i think XC and wrestling are the toughest

You gat it completly wrong not everyone can be good at football, you have to be born with talent unlike xc. Look at Brandan Dworak from Denmark a few years ago, he quit football cause he wasnt very good only to join xc and go to state twice and now is a stud at point. When is the last time you heard of someone that was bad at xc and went on to be good at football. And to answer you question wrestling is the toughest you have to be strong, quick, smart and have good endurance.

I would agree only with the fact that not everybody can be good at football. However, I would strongly disagree with the fact that anyone can be good at xc. Anyone can run, but not everyone will be successful or good at it.

IMO wrestling or xc would be the hardest sport (if you take in practices, games, meets, etc...) there is so much down time in football that it probably comes out to be more down time than actual play time. In xc, you are running for 3.1 miles (in a meet for guys, 2.5 for girls) and it's all at once--no time outs, no end of the play, etc...yes, wrestling gets their end of the period, but a wrestler is going darn near all out for 2 minutes at a time--3 times, using strength, speed and obviously endurance.

Now, let's take practices...football, again, lots of down time. XC-speed workouts have very little down time w/ recoveries, but then you're going anywhere from 1-6 minutes at race pace and faster than race pace. On a long run day anywhere between 5-10 miles (or more) w/ no stopping and very little water. Wrestlers practices would be similar to xc as far as workouts...sometimes more intense, sometimes not. The weather is the same for football and xc, so the heat factor is similar for both; fb is in pads, and xc'rs are running various distances in as much as 90 + degree weather at times.

Here's what we'll do though, we'll give the hardest hits to football. [] As far as baseball (personally my favorite sport) goes... ah, no, perhaps it takes the most skill, but definitely not the hardest of the sports in terms of exertion.

anyone can be good at cross country. you dont have to be born with that talent. you just work hard, run a lot and u will be a good runner. you cant do that in football or basketball. i know a lot of guys that kill themselves to be good football players and still cant compete with the talented players. or look at basketball, no matter how hard some guys work they wont be able to hit a jump shot. you have to be smart to play football n basketball, and i dont think u need to be very smart to run thru a cc course.
