Back at it again with another edition and this time the WFCA Realignment shook up the entire state with many schools moving to other leagues in order to have everyone play seven conference games instead having leagues that play as many as nine or as few as four conference games. This year we have 17 teams that have a combined conference opponents win% over .600 with the top four being separated by .0101. Instead of going from 1-10 in one post, I am going to shake things up go in reverse order today going from 17-1 in separate installments over a few days to get the full scope of how the realignment affected scheduling for all.

Without further ado, here are the teams rankes 17-13.

17. Madison La Follette

Conference: Big 8
2019 Record: 6-4 (6-3)
Playoff Run: Lost to Middleton 21-20 in the First Round
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 57-38 (.600)
# of Playoff Teams: 7
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: at Kenosha Indian Trail (8-3), at Monona Grove (4-6)
Notable Conference Opponents: at D1 Quarterfinalist Sun Prairie (8-4), vs Middleton (8-3), at D1 Semifinalist and Big 8 Champ Madison Memorial (12-1)

Comments: In their six wins last season, the Lancers beat their regular season opponents by an 34-10 average score. However in their three losses, La Follette was outscored heavily by a 50-17 average relegating them to a tie for fourth place in the Big 8. La Follette almost got a measure of revenge on Middleton for a 21-49 loss to the Cardinals in week nine but fell 21-20 in Level One. For the first time since 2007, teams in the Big 8 will be able to schedule non-conference games and La Follette picked up two quality opponents in Kenosha Indian Trail and a Monona Grove team that looks to rebound after a down 2019 campaign. The Big 8 still figures to be a landmine of sorts with notable matchups against Sun Prairie and Madison Memorial happening on the road with Middleton coming to Madison.

16. Brookfield Central

Conference: Greater Metro
2019 Record: 8-3 (7-1)
Playoff Run: Defeated West Bend East 42-10, Lost to Brookfield East 20-0 in the Second Round.
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 59-39 (.602)
# of Playoff Teams: 6
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: at D4 Champ Catholic Memorial (12-2), at Pulaski (9-2)
Notable Conference Opponents: vs D2 Champ Brookfield East (12-2), at D1 Quarterfinalist Marquette (8-4), at D2 Quarterfinalist and Greater Metro Co-Champ Menomonee Falls (9-3)

Comments: Many though Brookfield Central was one of the favorites to win Division 2 last year with Rashad Lampkin leading a potent offensive attack. BC tied for the GMC title with Menomonee Falls and looked to make some major noise in the D2 field. However crosstown rival Brookfield East stunned the Lancers with a 20-0 shutout in Level 2 en route to a state title in a playoff field that saw many of the top seeds fall early. After a few years of being a nine team league for football, the Greater Metro returns to a eight team conference with both Wauwatosa East and Wauwatosa West leaving for the Woodland while West Allis Central returns. The Lancers non-conference slate is strong with a road game against D4 Champion Catholic Memorial in week one and another trip to Pulaski the following week. In fact, Brookfield Central is on the road for five of the first six weeks of the season with Marquette and Menomonee Falls being on the road in weeks six and nine respectively. However Brookfield East comes to the Lancers in their week five home opener.

15. Green Bay Southwest

Conference: Fox River Classic North
2019 Record: 4-6 (4-5 FRCC)
Playoff Run: Lost to Kaukauna 27-13 in the First Round
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 61-40 (.603)
# of Playoff Teams: 7
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: at D2 Quarterfinalist Kaukauna (8-4)
Notable Conference Opponents: vs Pulaski (9-2), at D1 Runner Up and FRCC Champ Bay Port (13-1), vs D3 Quarterfinalist and Bay Champ West De Pere

Comments: The Trojans found themselves in the postseason despite finishing 4-5 in conference but with tiebreakers, they were one of the first teams with sub-.500 conference records allowed into the postseason. However their stay in the postseason was a short one as Kaukauna ended their season in Level One. In non-conference play they get another shot at Kaukauna in week two before diving into conference play. If GBSW wants to get into the playoff field again this year, they better make an impact early on as their final three games come against teams that finished a combined 31-5.

14. Darlington

Conference: Southwest Wisconsin Activities
2019 Record: 7-4 (4-3)
Playoff Run: Defeated Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg 35-34, Lost to Mondovi 40-0 in the Second Round.
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 58-38 (.604)
# of Playoff Teams: 5
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: at D6 and Flyway Champ St. Mary's Springs (12-2), vs Platteville (6-4)
Notable Conference Opponents: at Lancaster (9-2), vs D6 Quarterfinalist and SWAL Champ Mineral Point (11-1), at D7 Quarterfinalist River Ridge (8-4)

Comments: Darlington bounced back from a down year in 2018 to finish 6-3 and finish fourth in the SWAL. The Redbirds were placed in one of the toughest regions in the entire state but made some noise by rallying from a big deficit against Benton/SM/Shullsburg before getting shut out by Mondovi in level two. Darlington is one of a few teams that only have five teams on their schedule that made the postseason last year but the combined records of all the playoff teams is 46-13. The Redbirds get a shot at the D6 Champs in St. Mary's Springs on the road in week two before diving into conference play. The SWAL looks to be rugged yet again plus they draw D7 Quarterfinalist River Ridge in the crossover so Darlington must be careful not to slip up against teams they are favored against in order to make it back to the postseason again in 2020.

13. Germantown

Conference: Greater Metro
2019 Record: 5-5 (4-4)
Playoff Run: Lost to Homestead 10-7 in the First Round.
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 60-39 (.606)
# of Playoff Teams: 6
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: vs Homestead (8-3), at D2 Quarterfinalist and North Shore Champ Hartford (11-1)
Notable Conference Opponents: vs D1 Quarterfinalist Marquette (8-4), at D2 Champ Brookfield East (12-2), vs D2 Quarterfinalist and GMC Co-Champ Menomonee Falls (9-3), at GMC Co-Champ Brookfield Central (8-3)

Comments: Germantown hasn't fully found its stride since being put into the Greater Metro a few years back but made steps back to contention last year as they rode a strong defense and timely plays from the offense to make the playoffs last year. They pushed a former conference foe in Homestead to the brink in the opening round but fell 10-7 to the Highlanders. The Warhawks get a rematch at home against Homestead in week one followed by another North Shore opponent that ended the Highlanders conference title streak in Hartford the following week on the road. The GMC still figures to be a drag em out affair as Germantown get Marquette and Menomonee Falls at home but have to go to both Brookfield East and Brookfield Central.

Expect 12-4 to come Friday.

EDIT: Was a bit busier than expected today. Will be doing a bigger chunk on Friday.

Back at it again with 12-4 today.

12. Neenah

Conference: Fox Valley Association
2019 Record: 5-6 (4-4 Valley Football Association)
Playoff Run: Defeated Hudson 35-27, Lost to Kimberly 55-28 in the Second Round
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 61-39 (.610)
# of Playoff Teams: 7
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: vs D3 Runner Up Menasha (12-2)
Notable Conference Opponents: vs VFA South Champ Fond Du Lac (9-2), vs D1 Quarterfinalist Appleton North (8-4), vs D2 Quarterfinalist Kaukauna (8-4), at D1 Semifinalist and VFA North Champ Kimberly (12-1)

Comments: Neenah has been a consistent threat in the VFA South in recent years making life difficult for the contenders in the division. Last year the Rockets took a step back falling back to 4-5 overall but finishing 4-4 in league play which punched their ticket to the playoffs. Paired with another 4-5 team Hudson, the Rockets defeated the Raiders before falling to VFA North Champ Kimberly in Level 2. Neenah is reconfigured into the revived Fox Valley Association (Sans Appleton West and Hortonville who are in the VFA) for the coming season and their schedule features a strong test from a former FVA/VFA foe in Menasha in non-conference play in week two. Neenah should be a factor in the top half of the league once again and has the fortunate schedule rotation as Fond Du Lac, Appleton North and Kaukauna come to Neenah and only having to travel to Kimberly.

11. Manawa

Conference: Central Wisconsin Large
2019 Record: 8-3 (5-1)
Playoff Run: Defeated Pardeeville 55-28, Lost to Coleman 46-28 in the Second Round.
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 58-37(.6105)
# of Playoff Teams: 7
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: at MONLPC Large Champ Kewaunee (9-2)
Notable Conference Opponents: vs D5 Runner Up and Marawood Champ Stratford (13-1), at Spencer/Columbus Catholic (6-5), vs D5 Semifinalist and CWC Large Champ Amherst (11-1).

Comments: The Wolves have always gotten the most out of their program despite being one of the smaller schools in the CWC Large. Last year they finished behind league champ Amherst with a 7-2 (5-1) record and drew a 2 seed in D6. After dispatching Pardeeville in the first round, Manawa was upended by Coleman in level two. The Wolves will have their work cut out for them as their non-conference slate features a trip a perennially tough Kewaunee program in week two. Conference play for Manawa will be daunting as Stratford and Spencer/Columbus Catholic, two programs that were forces to be reckoned with in the Marawood and Cloverbelt respectively are now part of the league. Amherst comes calling late in the season at home as well for the Wolves.

10. Mosinee

Conference: Great Northern
2019 Record: 6-4 (5-1)
Playoff Run: Lost to New Richmond 41-12 in the First Round.
2020 Combined Opponents Win%:  59-37 (.614)
# of Playoff Teams: 6
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: at D5 Runner Up and Marawood Champ Stratford (13-1), at D7 Semifinalist and Scenic Bluffs Champ Bangor (12-1)
Notable Conference Opponents: vs D3 Quarterfinalist and Great Northern Champ Medford (11-1)

Comments: The Great Northern was an interesting league to watch in 2019. While Medford ran away with the league title en route to a 11-1 year, there was four teams that finished within a game of each other which decided who made the postseason. Mosinee despite being one of three teams that finished 6-3 in the conference, went 5-1 in league play before having their season ended by New Richmond in level one. The GNC picks up another quality program in Hayward/LCO from the Heart O' North which makes the race for the crown a bit more interesting as Medford losses a bit of offense from last year. Mosinee should be a major factor in the race and will be battle tested as both of their non-conference games are on the road against two teams that made it to at least the semifinals in their respective divisions. A battle against Medford could decide who is the early front runner in the GNC.

9. Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg

Conference: Six Rivers
2019 Record: 7-2 (5-1)
Playoff Run: Lost to Darlington 35-34 in the First Round.
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 61-38 (.616)
# of Playoff Teams: 5
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: at Capitol South Champ Cambridge (9-2)
Notable Conference Opponents: vs Potosi/Cassville (8-3), vs D6 Quarterfinalist and SWAL Champ Mineral Point (11-1), vs D7 and Six Rivers Champ Black Hawk/Warren (14-0)

Comments: The first year of the tri-op was a success for the Knights as they finished second behind Black Hawk/Warren in the Six Rivers. However with the addition of Shullsburg, the enrollment bump put them in D6 and placed them in one of the toughest brackets in the state. Given the four seed, the Knights looked to have the game against Darlington wrapped up but a big comeback in the second half by the Redbirds ended B/SM/S's year at 7-2. The notable game on the Knights non-conference slate features a road game against defending Capitol South Champ Cambridge. The battle at the top of the Six Rivers will once again be a dogfight and the tri-op drew a crossover game against defending SWAL Champ Mineral Point making their run at Black Hawk/Warren more difficult.

8. Watertown

Conference: Badger Large
2019 Record: 6-4 (4-3 Badger South)
Playoff Run: Lost to Holmen 36-10 in the First Round.
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 63-39 (.617)
# of Playoff Teams: 6
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: vs D2 Champ Brookfield East (12-2), at Reedsburg (8-3)
Notable Conference Opponents: vs D2 Runner Up Waunakee (12-2), at Badger South Co-Champ Milton (9-2), vs D3 and Badger North Champ DeForest (14-0)

Comments: The Goslings have settled in nicely into the middle of the Badger South being always in striking distance of a postseason bid. Last year was no different as Watertown made the playoffs at 6-3 overall and 4-3 in league play. However they could not get it done at home as Holmen walked away with a 36-10 road win. Watertown ramped up their schedule with the Goslings moving to the Large division of the Badger Conference with a non-conference game against defending D2 champs Brookfield East to open the season. Two of the three more notable conference games against Waunakee and DeForest come at home while the Goslings have to travel to Milton who tied for the Badger South title last season.

7. Kenosha Bradford

Conference: Southeast
2019 Record: 3-7 (3-4)
Playoff Run: Lost to Franklin 42-0 in the First Round.
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 61-36 (.629)
# of Playoff Teams: 6
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: vs D1 Semifinalist and Big 8 Champ Madison Memorial (12-1), vs D1 and Classic Eight Champ Muskego (14-0)
Notable Conference Opponents: at D1 Quarterfinalist and Southeast Champ Franklin (10-2), vs Kenosha Indian Trail (8-3)

Comments: Bradford hasn't been able to capture the mojo that made them one of the league powers in the Southeast in the early 2010's. Kenosha Bradford struggled to a 3-6 record in 2019 but made it to the postseason off tiebreakers at 3-4 in league play. There was no magic run for the Red Devils as Southeast Champ Franklin shut them out in level one. They ramped their non-conference slate this year as Big 8 champ Madison Memorial comes to Kenosha in week one. Week two features Muskego comes calling in a matchup from the Southeast Conference past. The Southeast was a landmine last year outside of KIT and Franklin which could be a plus for a Bradford.

6. Lakeside Lutheran

Conference: Capitol
2019 Record: 7-5 (3-2 Capitol North)
Playoff Run: Defeated Jefferson 42-28, Defeated Evansville 14-6, Lost to River Valley 28-14 in the Quarterfinals
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 59-34 (.634)
# of Playoff Teams: 6
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: vs D5 and Midwest Classic Champ Lake Country Lutheran (13-1)
Notable Conference Opponents: at D4 Quarterfinalist and Capitol North Champ Lake Mills (10-2), at Lodi (6-3), at Trailways Large Champ Horicon/Hustisford (8-2)

Comments: Up to last year, the Capitol North was one of the toughest conferences in the area. Not only because of the quality of teams in the division, but because they only played five conference games. It was three strikes and your out. Last year Lakeside Lutheran got in the playoffs at 5-4 (3-2) over a Lodi team that went 6-3 but went 2-3 in league play. Lakeside made a nice run in the D4 playoffs upending Rock Valley Champ Evansville in level two before falling to River Valley in the quarterfinals. Now with seven conference games, the Capitol North teams can breathe a slight sigh of relief but for Lakeside ramped up their schedule with a marquee matchup against D5 Champ Lake Country Lutheran in non-conference play. Lake Mills will be the favorite in the Capitol and the L-Cats host Lakeside Lutheran in league play.

5. Edgar

Conference: Marawood
2019 Record: 12-2 (4-1)
Playoff Run: Defeated Greenwood 43-12, Defeated Hurley 40-0, Defeated Gilman 47-0, Defeated Bangor 27-7, Lost to Black Hawk/Warren 6-0 in the D7 State Finals.
2020 Combined Opponents Win%:  61-35 (.635)
# of Playoff Teams: 6
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: vs Rock Valley Champ Evansville (9-2), at D5 Runner Up Champ and Marawood Champ Stratford (13-1)
Notable Conference Opponents: vs Colby (8-3), at Auburndale (8-3), at D6 Semifinalist and Cloverwood Champ Abbotsford (12-1)

Comments: The Marawood nearly came away with two gold balls last year as Edgar and Stratford both made it to Madison. However like Stratford, Edgar fell short in a low scoring affair in the D7 title game to Black Hawk/Warren. With Stratford moving to the Central Wisconsin Large the annual grudge match between the Wildcats and Tigers now becomes a non-conference game in week to go along with a home game against D4 Evansville to open the year. Edgar figures to be the favorite in the reconfigured Marawood but Abbotsford and Auburndale should have something to say about it.

4. Green Bay Preble

Conference: Fox River Classic North
2019 Record: 6-5 (5-4 FRCC)
Playoff Run: Defeated Milwaukee Riverside 7-6, Lost to Bay Port 59-14 in the Second Round.
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 65-35 (.650)
# of Playoff Teams: 8
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: vs D.C. Everest (6-5), at D1 Quarterfinalist Appleton North (8-4)
Notable Conference Opponents: at Pulaski (9-2), vs D1 Runner Up and FRCC Champ Bay Port (13-1), at D3 Quarterfinalist and Bay Champ West De Pere (11-1)

Comments: Preble in recent years has been a main feature in the top half of the Fox River Classic. Preble once again made the postseason for the ninth straight year last season. For the first time since 2013 the Hornets won a playoff game defeating Milwaukee Riverside before falling to league champ Bay Port in level two. Preble picked up two quality non-conference games in D.C. Everest and Appleton North in the first two weeks. Both programs should figure in their respective title hunts. Preble will have their work cut out for them in the FRCC North as all of the conference games with the exception of the crossover game against Sheboygan South are against playoff teams.

Expect 3-1 to come either tomorrow or Tuesday.

3. Middleton

Conference: Big 8
2019 Record: 8-3 (7-2)
Playoff Run: Defeated Madison La Follette 21-20, Lost to Madison Memorial 30-0 in the Second Round.
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 66-35 (.653)
# of Playoff Teams: 7
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: at D1 Runner Up and FRCC Champ Bay Port (13-1), vs D2 Runner Up Waunakee (12-2)
Notable Conference Opponents: vs D1 Semifinalist and Big 8 Champ Madison Memorial (12-1), at D1 Quarterfinalist Sun Prairie (8-4), vs Verona (7-3)

Comments: The Big 8 had one of the better years in the postseason in recent memory despite nearly all the league being placed in the same region in D1. Madison Memorial made it to the semifinals while Sun Prairie made it to Level 3. Middleton defeated fellow league member foe Madison La Follette in a thriller before being shut out in Level Two. Since the Big 8 is not a closed ten team conference anymore, the Cardinals scheduled two games against a pair of teams that made it to Madison in Bay Port and Waunakee. Starting after their conference opener, the Cardinals get five straight games against all the Big 8 teams that made the playoffs with Madison Memorial, Verona, and Sun Prairie coming in weeks 6-8.

2. West De Pere

Conference: Fox River Classic North
2019 Record: 11-1 (8-0 Bay)
Playoff Run: Defeated Shawano 56-20, Defeated Grafton 56-17, Lost to Menasha 24-14 in the D3 Quarterfinals.
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 66-34 (.660)
# of Playoff Teams: 8
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: vs Hortonville (9-2)
Notable Conference Opponents: vs D1 Runner Up and FRCC Champ Bay Port (13-1), at D3 Runner Up Menasha (12-2), at Pulaski (9-2)

Comments: The Phantoms have long been a force to be reckoned with in the Bay and D3 for a long period of time. Last year was no different as West De Pere ran the table going 9-0. However it was rival Menasha that bested the Phantoms 24-14 in Level 3 en route to a state final berth. Both Menasha and West De Pere got placed into the Fox River Classic albeit in separate divisions but do get to face each other in the mandated conference crossover game. Non-Conference features a nice matchup against Hortonville in week two after a trip down to Wauwatosa West in the season opener.

1. Ashwaubenon

Conference: Fox River Classic North
2019 Record: 7-3 (7-2)
Playoff Run: Lost to Grafton 49-24 in the First Round.
2020 Combined Opponents Win%: 68-35 (.6601)
# of Playoff Teams: 8
Notable Non-Conference Opponents: vs D2 Quarterfinalist Kaukauna (8-4), at D1 Semifinalist and VFA North Champ Kimberly (12-1)
Notable Conference Opponents: vs D1 Runner Up and FRCC Champ Bay Port (13-1), at D3 Quarterfinalist and Bay Champ West De Pere (11-1), at Pulaski (9-2)

Comments: There are leagues/teams that benefited from the WFCA realignment either for being placed with teams that are similar in program level or getting several regional powers being placed into one league. The Fox River Classic features both sides of the coin as the FRCC South features (Menasha not withstanding) teams that have struggled for a while. On the other side, the FRCC North features seven teams that all made the postseason last year. Ashwaubenon got placed into the North after a bounceback 7-2 year. However playoff success in recent years has been elusive as the Jaguars fell to Grafton in Level One. Along with a tough divisional schedule, the non-conference slate feature two FVA teams that went 5-2 in the postseason in Kimberly and Kaukauna. The only non-playoff team that Ashwaubenon faces in 2020 is in week eight at FRCC South foe Green Bay West.
