In this week's WSN/Coaches Polls, Germantown assumes the #1 ranking in D-1 following SPASH's loss to St Paul Cretin-Derham Hall in this past weekend's Wisconsin-Minnesota Border Battle. In the AP Rankings, SPASH remains #1 (5 1st-place votes) and Germantown remains #2 (3 1st-place votes). And while I don't know for sure why this is, I wouldn't be surprised if several AP voters missed the SPASH defeat to Cretin-Derham Hall, by not doing their homework before they voted. One sure way to tell is if both SPASH and Germantown win their games this week and Germantown moves into the #1 position next week, I think it will be safe to assume that the only reason SPASH remained #1 this week is because several AP voters weren't paying attention (which in and by itself is not surprising). While I realize it's possible the voters kept SPASH #1 because they still believe the Panthers to be the best D-1 team in Wisconsin, despite their loss to A top Minnesota team, I have my doubts because of their past record of reacting slowly to results from Saturday games that conceivably have an effect on the following week's rankings (for more in this topic, see the travesty on the Girls Top 10 thread for this week).)
