I see Travis is up and at it with the Spring football rankings and I just wanted to chime in on a few things from what I’ve seen so far.

D7 looks to be loaded this year near the top. Black Hawk/Warren will be interesting to see how that meshes together as a first year co-op. I could be wrong but with the enrollments or both schools pushing them to roughly 200, would that not put them in D6? Or with out of state co-ops does that system work differently?

I don’t really have anything to say about 8 man as there isn’t a local 8 man team around here to my knowledge.

I will say that I’m rooting for Wabeno/Laona in 8 man though. I have family in Wabeno so i’ll be interested to see how that move pans out.

I commented this on the actual post Travis made but I’d keep an eye out on Burlington Catholic Central in 2019. After a few down years they’re on the upswing and with the conference outside of RaLu graduating a lot of key talent I wouldn’t be surprised to see BCC make a big jump up the standings this year in the MCC.

I see RaLu as the favorites in that conference as things stand but you can never count out Martin Luther or St Catherine’s in that conference as of recently even with the talent loss.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Catholic Central ranked in D7 if they can win in conference. A team in a conference of bigger schools can’t be overlooked(see Black Hawk and Edgar as perfect examples of this). I’m not going to go into any detail on any higher divisions as of yet but I will be interested to see the rankings as they pop up.

So far, so good, Michael G. Wabeno/Laona won their first game 30-18. Conference may be topsy-turvy this year as Gibraltar and Sevastopol, both very strong last year, stumbled out of the gate. Early on, Florence looks like they might be the team to beat, but we'll need to see.

D5 ad D6 are going to be rather interesting. Lake Country Lutheran won at Springs which personally wasn’t shocking to me but my guess is many had Springs 1 in D5. Looks like they had over 100 more total yards but had a costly fumble returned for a td. Should be interesting between Amherst and Springs this week but I don’t see Springs starting 0-2. Stratford to me is the favorite in 5 at this point. In 6 if I were a betting man I’d say Regis and Racine Lutheran are on a collision course to state. With Regis gaining Gabe Chanel that to me put them over a few other teams and the fact Connor Kurki is out for year for Iola. I don’t see many great teams in 6 but there are some quality teams up North. Guessing Lancaster could make some noise this year and think Auburndale will be solid. Manawa beat a good Markesan squad and were missing a few starters. Should be great year especially the top 6 in D5. Stratford to me is a shoe in as long as they don’t lose any key kids but springs and Lake Country most likely will play again. Guessing Amherst and Kewaunee will battle level 2 or 3 and then get rolled by Stratford.
Connor Kurki could be starting QB for Badgers this year no doubt!!

Also lost fumbles twice in LCL territory in the first quarter, once inside the 5. Springs will be just fine if they clean up the turnovers and procedural penalties. Will also need to work out some kinks in the passing game, but I think the potential is there. There were using a senior (who was actually listed as an RB curiously) under center all night. LCL is just a tough, experienced team and you could tell they were chomping at the bit for this one. Real physical and fun game to watch. This will not be a fun week of practice for Springs, and I'm interested to see in how they come out vs. Amherst.

In regards to D6, I don't think there is anyone touching Racine Lutheran in the southern half of the state...although has it been confirmed what Black Hawk/Warren's exact combined enrollment is and where they are likely to fall? If it's D6, well, there's your threat to Racine Lutheran. They just pasted Fennimore to start the year.

Also, something to keep an eye on, though I'm not sure it'd have a major effect given what their bread-and-butter is, but Racine Lutheran's QB was stretchered off with a neck injury on Friday, and although he had full feeling, etc. there was no timetable given for his return.

Never like seeing that, but glad he had feeling in his extremities.

I can shed some light into that situation as I have a brother who starts for Lutheran. Nolan is doing ok and they’re going to rest him the next two weeks as a precaution from what I heard and they will re-evaluate the situation at that point. They’re being very careful with his injury but they expect him back by Week 5 at latest. As far as who replaces him while he’s out? Well they’re not quite sure yet as they’re pretty thin at QB and they’re thinking about running a fair bit of Wildcat formation to let Tenner run the show while Nolan is out.

I kinda figured...though it wouldn't hurt to get someone some real QB snaps just in case.

FWIW, I watched some HUDL film from Waupun's Week 1 game and let me just say RaLu probably won't need many starters on the field to win comfortably. Interested to see how long Tenner plays...should have 200 by halftime, easy.

Looks like Black Hawk/Warren will be solidly in D7 with a combined enrollment of 187. That's kind of disappointing, but I guess it keeps another contender in D7...although D6 could use another contender or two as well.

Not sure why that took so long to figure out. It's simple addition...lol.

Should be interesting with a loaded Bangor and BH team possible matchup. Not sure what Edgar brought back from last year but with their tradition they should be a contender.

D6 seems a bit top heavy with Regis and RaLu but nobody else on their level.  No Springs or Edgar in D6, and teams like Grantsburg and Darlington not state contenders like they were a few years earlier.  Lancaster close to D6 cutoff?

Lancaster could fall to 6 and they will be playing in Darlington this Friday.  The Redbirds have two really good win already this year (Westby and at Lake County Lutheran), so they could be back.  Mineral Point should be taken as a serious contender also.   As far as Black Hawk/Warren, they are in D7 and they are looking even better than last year.

Coming up on week 3

D4:

Glad to see Wrightstown back.  Their good program goes back to the 90s.  Heard Martin Luther has a really good team this year.  Looking forward to  their matchup with Racine Lutheran.  Can Saint Croix Central make another run to state again this year?  Freedom and Little Chute seem to always hit their stride right around playoff time.

D5:  A very deep and talented division this year.  Springs starting out 0-2, but don't ever count the Ledgers and Bob Hyland out.  I don't see them getting picked off earlier than Level 3.  Colby is an eyebrow raiser.  Can't wait to see Regis take them on later in the season.   Springs, Lake Country Lutheran, Lancaster, Stratford, Colby, Cedar Grove Belgium, Amherst.  Absolutely loaded.  Playoff time is going to be real interesting.  Some very good teams could be going home a lot earlier than they deserve.  Hopefully we don't see another "bracket of death" again this season but it's going to be hard with so many great teams this year. Lake Country and Lancaster in the South but so many good teams up North.

D6: Regis looking a cut above everyone else.  They have scored near 50 points by halftime their first two games.  They are incredibly deep on the bench as well.  Racine Lutheran picking up right where they left off. RaLu has some size on their line and have a very talented and physical running back.   Abbotsford and Spring Valley IMO are the next best teams in line.  Not quite convinced yet Mineral Point or Darlington are top level contenders just based on the last few years, but time will tell.

D7:  No surprise with the usual suspects here.  A bit surprised Blackhawk isn't ranked #1.  They are the defending state champions and crushed two Division 6 playoff teams from last year.  Bangor looks like an offensive juggernaut like the 2017 team.  Edgar is Edgar, and will be one of the  state contenders for years to come.   Hasn't Lourdes Academy been historically Division 6?    Would be nice to a new face from this Division at Camp Randall besides Black Hawk, Bangor, or Edgar.
