How strange is this?

Thursday night (12/22), the Marshfield Tigers Boys Wrestling Team defeated Wisconsin Rapids by a margin of 58 points, 64-6.

It was the Tigers' first win over the Red Raiders since 1958 ... 58 years ago. On that night in 1958, the Tigers also defeated WI Rapids .... by 58 points .... [] [headbang] []

Was that also the last time Rapids lost by such a margin? Sheesh. What's going on up there?

Ever since the widely-publicized sexual harassment case involving at least 3 Rapids' grapplers a few years back, the once national powerhouse program has gradually been in decline.

Can't be certain, but I have a strong hunch the Benitz (head coach) wrestling culture & regime really suffered some to-be-expected consequences in lieu of the charges, legal outcomes & public exposure related to the scandal. In central Wisconsin and within the Wisconsin Valley Conference, one could almost sense, over time, the air gradually releasing from the balloon that was the WI Rapids Lincoln High School wrestling program.

And, in all fairness to Coach Benitz & the wrestling program, the city & school district have been impacted economically & socially by some notable cutbacks, layoffs & job losses in the Paper Industry which has driven the WI Rapids area economy for well over a century. I believe it is accurate to deduce that WI Rapids high school athletics have felt some of the trickle-down effect from the area's economic woes.
