so this is a true story, it happened to me, swear to god. i was at OPEN GYM, this means open to all people including non basketball players. we are playing a friendly game of 5 on 5. there were 8 basketball players and 2 non, myself being one of the non. as we are shooting for teams, two more basketball players show up. no big deal because it is open gym, open to anyone, or so i thought. as they show up an adult male approaches me and my friend the other non basketball player and tells us that we have to leave and cant play any longer in the 5 on 5 game because it is for basketball players only. the problem i have wit that is that, you cant have practice this year until november 16. open gym is open to everyone. and there was a kid from a different school there, i love that kid tho. so we tell this man this and he says to talk to the principal/athletic director. so as i call our principal/ AD he tells me that he is to busy to listen to what i have to say and to listen to what this elder told me. he also said that i dont run this place and all i talk about is blah blah blah. his exact words! so extremely furious i hung up on him. i immedietly went home and got on the WIAA website and read this. under roman numeral 2 letter D it says this. OPEN GYMS coaches and schools cannot be involved in out of season practice for athletics. however open gyms do not violate WIAA rules if they are conducted according to the following guidelines. 1. the open gym is made known and available to all students in the designated population of that school that is intersted in attending. it is not acceptable to include athletes from another school, public.
so if those are the rules how can we be told that we cant play with them, when the gym is suppose to be open to all people intersted, and the other kid from another school. i just wanted to get a workout and play. tell me what you think. thanx.
