Sisters Alli and Ann Tank finish 2-3 to help the team win the Platteville Invitational.

PLATTEVILLE--Ashley Beutler set a blazing pace Saturday.

The Monticello-New Glarus junior led from start to finish at the Platteville Invitational, but it was the sister tandem of Alli and Ann Tank, along with their Dodgeville-Mineral Point prep girls cross country teammates, that the field was trying to catch.

Alli Tank finished second overall and first in Division 1, while Ann was third overall and second in the division as Dodgeville-Mineral Point placed all five of its scoring runners in the top 10 overall and finished with 19 points to easily win its division.

Running against all the schools in the field, Dodgeville-Mineral Point would have totaled 26 points and won.

"We wanted to try and get as many girls in the top 10 as possible," said Alli Tank, who finished the 4,000-meter race in 15 minutes, 9 seconds. "It helps to have meets like this because it just shows us that we can do it again."

Dodgeville-Mineral Point, the defending WIAA Division 2 state champion, is the top-ranked team in the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association Division 2 state poll.

Ann Tank finished in 15:18 and admitted this was the finish they had hoped for.

"We wanted to have myself and Alli place in the top three," Ann Tank said. "We wanted to stay as close to Ashley as possible, but obviously she is a very good runner and she was just outstanding."

Beutler finished in 14:51.

While Dodgeville-Mineral Point's performance was impressivle, Ann Tank admitted there's still work to do.

"This was one of our last big races before sectionals and it was important for us to do well," she said. "It's awesome to win it, but we know we can still get better."

Led by Beutler, Monticello-New Glarus won the Division 2 portion with 46 points, topping Boscobel by three points.

Monticello-New Glarus and Dodgeville-Mineral Point also came away with victories in the boys 5,000-meter race.

Monticello-New Glarus totaled 51 points to win Division 2, while Dodgeville-Mineral Point had 27 points to take Division 1.

On a related note, I've heard that on NBC 15's Wisconsin Sports Sunday tonight, the Tank sisters will be featured in the prep spotlight. This is scheduled for 10:30 p.m., but it could be later depending on the football game.
