Kevin James...LHP from Whitefish Bay was the first Wisconsin born/College player chosen in the MLB 2009 Draft. He was taken by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at pick #289 in the 9th round.

Congrats Kevin!

Jun. 11, 2009 2:17 p.m.
Four more players from Wisconsin were drafted today as MLB concluded its draft with Rounds 30-50. The Brewers took RHP Brad Schreiber of Kimberly High School in the 42nd round.
Also drafted:
Round 31: LHP Aaron Dott of Wisconsin-Whitewater by Tampa Bay.
Round 37: RHP Joel Effertz of Ladysmith HS by Kansas City.
Round 44: OF Charlie Markson of Whitefish Bay HS by Detroit.
Markson's teammate, LHP Kevin James, was taken in the 9th round yesterday by Tampa Bay.

Schreiber is commmitted to Purdue and Effertz to Arizona, or both would likely have been drafted higher.

congrats to Kevin. anyone else from Wisconsin get drafted?

Scott Matyas from Kettle Moraine (class of '06, I think) was taken by the Yankees on the first day.

as was Erik Cordier of Southern Door in 2004, 2nd round by the Royals, but was traded (i believe 2 years ago) to the Braves for Tony Pena Jr.

Congrats to Kevin James and Charlie Markson of Whitefish Bay - unbelievable - two players on the same HS eam in WI get drafted. May never happen again. For KJ being in top ten rounds means that TB may make a serious run at him. Most teams that draft kids that high find ways to sign them. Good luck for both whatever they do.

Strangely, neither has been lights out this season, and have been defeated at times. Though James was apparently dominant yesterday.
