Isn't it great to see 2 SWC teams in the finals? Good luck Lancaster and Platteville. When was last time this happened? Maybe the old SWAL days?

Never has happened prior in the SWC/SWAL history where two teams from the same division made the state finals. In the old SWAL Large/Small days it did happen in 1993 when Lancaster won in D4 with a 30-16 win over Maple Northwestern and Darlington was defeated in D5 by Fall Creak 14-6. Also happened in 1990 when Darlington won D5 with a 21-17 win over Elk Mound and Richland Center lost in the D4 title game to Ellsworth 6-0.

I do know it has happened in girls basketball before though. Back in 1991, Prairie du Chien girls won D2 and the Cuba City girls won D3 and both squads were in the SWAL Large at the time. I believe Cuba finished first and PdC finished 2nd in the regular season standings.

Congrats to Platteville and Lancaster on making it to the D4 and D5 state championship games!

Last night was a great moment for the conference and now can Lancaster and Platteville both bring home the state title although they each face a tough opponent in Madison.

Lancaster and Platteville both come up short in the D5 and D4 championship games. The setbacks tonight can't overshadow a great year in football for the SWC.

Tough end of the road for Platteville and Lancaster but congrats to them on their fine seasons. Not many other conferences especially the size of the SWC can say they had state finalists in two divisions.

Old Southern Eight conference in the late 70's/early 80's. I believe both Iowa Grant and Cuba City made the state finals in boys basketball. IG in Class C and CC in Class B...and they both came home with the gold ball.
