I know they're only a college team but sometimes I wonder if maybe Wisconsin should make Bucky look more fierce. Sometimes I think the red W doesn't always look so fierce either. Obviously I know that there's more to a sports team than their logo but shouldn't they make some attempt to make it look cool? What do you think?

So, you are saying...

That S on Michigan State is very fierce...

That NC on North Carolina is very fierce...

That UCLA on UCLA is very fierce...

That LSU on LSU is very fierce...

These are just to name a few, the list goes on and on. Who cares about a fierce logo?

This doesn't matter at all. The point of logos and mascots isn't to out-fierce each other. If you think your team's mascot needs to be the most fierce, just be happy you're not a Western Kentucky fan.

The Lions made a recent attempt to make their logo look a little more fierce. I doubt it works out for them.

A logo is a logo.

Make your players fierce competitors, not your logo.

No, tweaking either the motion W (on the helmet) or Bucky too much wouldn't look that good.
"For some players, luck itself is an art."

"They say you're a man of vision."

"Welcome to NASCAR. Where the rules are made up and the points don't matter."

"What would you sell your freedom for?"
"Some Knicks tickets."

The motion W is perfectly fine as is.

In fact, I believe it was Mark May a couple of years ago who said that the best jerseys did not belong to one school, but to one conference, the Big Ten, in their simplicity and nostalgic appearance. If you take a look around the conference, everyone has something simple.

Plus, all college football fans know the actual Bucky Badger is fierce enough, and can kick anyone's ass.

I like that little Wisconsin badger character (wearing the sweatshirt). Michigan doesn't really use a wolverine character like that- but uses the "block M." But I always liked Michigan's helmet- it's tradition. There's a story behind that helmet design also.

But I like Wisconsin's motion "W." I know some high schools here in the state had to change their motion W didn't they? Wasn't U-W Madison going to sue high schools who used that logo or something like that?

I didn't know what you were talking about so I went to their website...OMG!! A hand waving a towel? Wow!

I saw them play once against Austin Peay. Austin Peay had this 3-4 year losing streak (something like that) and Austin Peay won the game.

The students were so excited & happy, they all ran around the track, jumping up and down laughing, yelling, waving their arms- you should have seen the innocent celebration going on. And there were only about 75 of them. So they all run over towards one of the goal posts, where police and security were waiting for them.

I remember there was about a 10 second standoff as the students all just kind of stopped. Then just like that the police started spraying all the students with pepper spray. I still remember seeing it cover the air.

Then another policeman started beating on one guy, while another police officer got this student in a choke hold & the student went to his knees and got handcuffed. You could tell that student had yelled at the cop, something like "What are you guys doing? or What's your problem?!"

Everyone in the stands (people were leaving & stopped) just froze and watched. It was kind of sad because it went from happiness to silence in 15 seconds.

But Austin Peay (TN) had a less fierce nickname- the "Governors." Their cheerleaders would cheer "Let's Go Peay! Let's Go Peay!"......that just doesn't sound right, does it?

So, you're basically suggesting that Wisconsin should look into changing their logo? Can you imagine if that happened, how people would respond. All the alums whining, rightfully so, about how it's breaking tradition, etc. Bucky logo is a classic, plus check his puffed out chest. FIERCE!

As scary as it is you are right about that the alumni would piss and moan about that. I didn't mean completely change it. Heck I have seen slight modifications to the same logo before even with Bucky. My uncle used to have a shirt that showed Bucky gritting his teeth like a mean badger. I know it sounds like a stupid question to some but I just like it when they at least make some attempt to make a cool logo. But apparently that can only happen in the pros. I'll remember that.

The reason schools/teams change or tweek logos is for additional merchandising revenue, suckering people into buying the "new" stuff to replace the old stuff. That's why you see smaller schools and small market professional teams do it often--they need to generate more $$$. UW and most of the Big Ten schools don't need to do that because they generate large amounts of revenue from ticket sales, bowl and BB tournament appearances, and TV contracts. Plus, the fan base at most Big Ten universities is so large and nationwide that they will always be selling large amounts of merchandise anyway, no matter how old the logo.

I think the last changes at UW are the motion "W" in the early 90s and the "cleaning up" of the Bucky logo about 10 years ago. IMO, both are very identifiable with the university (on a national level) and just great, classic logos.

The only people who really care about logo's and how they look are the teams that are losing and need to make a change to generate excitement in their program. As well as little kids.
The Brewers will finish 90-72 and earn the #1 WC berth.

Carlos Gomez will have a 30/40 season (HR/SB) and win a 2nd Gold Glove en route to an All Star selection.
