Gonzalez vs. Hendricks
Anderson vs. Lester
Davies vs. Quintana

A huge series.  Could probably just stop at that point.  Brewers begin 2 games out to the Cubs and Cards.  Getting 2 of 3 gets them within a game - of the Cubs anyway - but losing 2 of 3 drops them back to 3.  A Brewer sweep puts them up a game on the Cubs - worse yet - a Cub sweep will drop the Crew 5 back.

Travis Shaw back into the lineup against Hendricks.  Yelich goes to LF and Thames to RF.  Guessing CC is searching for a way to find a spot for Shaw.  He shouldn't be in the lineup the rest of the series.  Braun though goes to the bench and Gamel, who has been pretty good, also hits the pine.

Two moves of note in AAA San Antonio - Trey Supak and Devin Williams promoted to the Missions.  Both have been really good lately.  Maybe if no moves made in the next couple of days, they are destined for a look.

Bit of a pitcher's duel as each team collected only four hits. Gio Gonzalez held the Cubs hitless for five and finished giving up 2 runs in 6 and 1/3rd while striking out nine. He did leave with shoulder tightness which leaves his next start in doubt...naturally.

The Brewers were able to get to the Cubs bullpen with Ben Gamel's two-run single in the eighth being the difference in the game.

It is going to be interesting to see how the Travis Shaw experiment plays out.  Hearing some pregame comments from he and CC.

Shaw says he did everything he could at San Antonio and was really good there.  Feels he is in Milwaukee for the rest of the season.
CC says with the schedule allowed them to add Shaw and the roster looks odd, but it will not stay that way.

I think it showed the lack of confidence CC has in Shaw when he pinch hit for him in the 8th.  Yes it was Braun that hit, but with a righty on the mound, seems like that was a spot most would want a lefty at the plate.  Plus, it sure would appear that by adding Shaw to the lineup last night - it shifted the defense in several spots and ultimately led to Gamel heading to the bench.  This team can't play a lot with Thames in RF.

Not sure how this will be resolved, but someone is going to go within the next 4-5 days.  I know someone put out the idea of having Braun play some 1B again and that would make some sense if Aguilar does go.  But, that still leaves the Thames - Shaw - Gamel issue.  Braun going to 1B gives Gamel at bats and he has earned those.  But a bench of Thames, Shaw, Saladino, and Pina doesn't really offer a ton versatility.

Braun pinch hit for Hauser who had replaced Shaw's spot in the order via a double switch earlier.

Brewers win 5-3 in 10 innings.

Recap: https://www.mlb.com/gameday/cubs-vs-brewers/2019/07/27/567607#game_state=final,game_tab=,game=567607

Brewers could not get anything off of Jon Lester who went seven innings. Chase Anderson gave up two runs in five innings but the Brewers once again get at Chicago's bullpen by scoring two runs in the 8th and after the Cubs took the lead in the 10th, Yelich homered off closer Kimbrel and two batters later Huira (who hit the game tying double in the 8th hit a walk off 2 run HR in the bottom of the 10th.

Disgusting pitching performance with a sweep on the line leads to an 11-4 loss. Walking guys (read: Ian Happ) right before surrendering bombs is a terrible way to go about playing baseball.
