On Thursday when Drew Smyly opted out of his minor league contract, there wasn't a spot for him in the Brewers rotation.  He knew he could join the Phillies and when the Brewers wouldn't commit to him, he left.  Good job by Smyly's agent in finding him a job in a rotation at the major league level.  I always think you need 9-10 starting pitching options when Spring Training begins.  The Brewers had Woodruff, Anderson, Chacin, Burnes, Peralta, and Davies.  They brought in Josh Tomlin and Burch Smith.  They had Aaron Wilkerson, Adrian Houser and Zach Brown in the minors.  They had plenty of depth to start the season.   They released Tomlin before the season started.  Their problem is whenever anyone struggles in the rotation, their solution is to put them in the bullpen.  Now all of their starting pitching depth is in the bullpen and was never replaced.  Now they are in major trouble because if they want to get anyone who is competent they are going to have to give up way too much to make any deal.
If you want to drink all day, you have to start in the morning.
