Brewers shell Lester and Woodruff shuts down Cubs offense Friday, Hendricks wins a close one over Anderson Saturday, and flip a coin for Sunday....

No and yes.

It was a pitcher's duel at Miller Park as Jon Lester (6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K) and Brandon Woodruff (7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 12 K) battled back-and-forth to a scoreless draw before giving way to the bullpen. For the Brewers, Devin Williams (who worked around a Kris Bryant triple) and Josh Hader pitched scoreless frames while adding 4 more Ks to the team total. The Cubs got a dominant seventh from Craig Kimbrel and a good eighth from Rowan Wick, but David Ross opted to leave Wick out there for the ninth despite having Jeremy Jeffress ready in the pen. A leadoff walk to Yelich was followed by a single to right by Gyorko moving Yelich to third forcing Ross' hand. On came Jeffress who would give up a sac fly to Ryan Braun on his third pitch and the Brewers won, 1-0.

With Anderson getting "scratched" and Suter getting the start, I'm going to say the Brewers win Game #2 as well now...  Cubs will need Mills to pitch a gem to avoid the sweep on Sunday.

Other than a mistake to Braun (after Bryant gave him a second life by botching a foul pop up with 2 outs) Hendricks was his normal self against the Brewers.  With that said, it looked like it wouldn't be good enough after the Brewers made it 17 straight scoreless innings for the Cubs with Hader coming on for the 9th inning.  Luckily for the Cubs, Heyward, who has probably taken the most consistent at-bats of any Cubs hitter over the course of the entire season, yanks a two strike 95 mph fastball out to the Toyota Territory for his first HR off a LHP this year and put the Cubs up 3-2.  Vargas tacks on a solo HR to make it 4-2 and Kimbrel closes things for the Cubs in the 9th inning.

Rubber match tomorrow with Williams, Hader, and Kimbrel all likely unavailable after all throwing in each of the first two games of the series.

I prefer to live in an alternate reality where Vogelbach put that first Kimbrel fastball through the glass block windows at the old Mollica's Pub in beautiful, downtown West Milwaukee and the Brewers won 5-4.

But nope, 4-2 Cubs. Add three more Ks to the Yelich strikeout tracker too.

Brewers get no-hit by Alec Mills in a 12-0 rout, and just a few days after the Burnes and Woodruff masterpieces, the Brewers 2020 season hits rock bottom.
