Prior to tonight's game, the Brewers bring back Corey Knebel and ship out Mark Mathias.  Since August 1, Christian Yelich has a slash line of .243/.391/.533 which comes out to 44% above league average.  He has a walk rate of 19% and a strike out rate of 28%.  For his career he has a walk rate of 10% and a 20% strike out rate.  It does seem like he has missed some very hittable pitches during that time.  However the walk rate nearly double his career norm tells me that pitchers have decided to not throw him strikes.  In past years he had Mike Moustakas, Yasmani Grandal(2019), and Jesus Aguilar (2018) hitting behind him.  You had to worry about those guys doing damage with runners on base.  What hitters batting behind him now frighten a pitcher?  The Cardinals used that strategy last year of not letting Yelich beat them and now it looks like the rest of the league is following that plan as well.  Yelich has to expand his strike zone to get anything to hit.

The fat kid reminds me of Clay Dalrymple / Matt Stairs.
Hit a ball off the RF fence and get gunned at 1st!
But, as we all know, "the bat plays!"

Personally, he reminds me of Billy Bob from "Varsity Blues"...hopefully there's a puke-and-rally in his near-future.

As for the game, the Brewers had a great ninth inning. Too bad they were down 8-0 at that point.

8-3 Tigers. See ya tomorrow.

I love it when a plan comes together...especially when that plan is the Brewers offense, defense and pitching.

19 runs on 21 hits while only allowing two hits in a 19-0 rout of the Tigers.

Corbin Burnes set down the first 13 hitters he faced before giving up his only hit/baserunner of the day. He would go on to throw seven innings (with 11 Ks) in what was easily the best start of his career.

Offensively, well, let's go down the list:

-Garcia: 2-4 (3 R, 2 RBIs, 2 BB, 2 2B)
-Yelich: 1-5😏 (2B, RBI)
-Gyorko: 2-5 (2 HR, 2 RBI)
-Braun: 3-5 (HR, 3 RBI, 2 R)
-Arcia: 4-6 (2B, 3 R)
-Urias: 3-6 (2 2B, 2 R, 5 RBI)
-Taylor: 4-5 (2 2B, HR, 3 R, 3 RBI)
-Nottingham: 1-5 (HR, 2 R, 2 RBI)

Only Hiura failed to register a hit or score a run for the Brewers. They were 10-20 with RISP, and the team's 13 XBH are a single-game franchise record.
