what was this incredible onside kick?

I'll do my best.. but both teams were lined up for a regular return.. Rosemeyer started his trot towards the ball an right before he kicked it the front line of the returning teaam turned around to run back an get ready to block.. So he absolutely drilled the ball directly into the back of this kids back shoulder pads and the ball popped up an landed into Jordan Childs'(i think) hands.. it was crazy to see tho, and there was only like 30 seconds left in the half so they didnt get anything out of it..but it was crazy to see..haha

ha ha that would be sweet to see. i thought you were going to say like the kid got hit in the nuts and the other team got it or something.

Platteville opens season with shortened winHeat, humidity end game in 3rd quarterby SHANNON MUMM

DARLINGTON, Wis. - Platteville and Darlington head coaches Scott Statz and Scott Zywicki both had one thing on their minds at the conclusion of Friday afternoon's non-conference football game: to get their players water, lots and lots of water.

Just as Platteville scored its sixth touchdown with three minutes remaining in the third quarter, both coaches met at midfield and shook hands, signaling that the game had suddenly come to an abrupt end, an occasion neither coach had endured prior to this. The heat and humidity had taken its toll on both teams, causing several stops in the game for players suffering from heat cramps. Platteville claimed the season opening victory, 42-14.

"We couldn't go more than two consecutive plays without having somebody go down (with cramps)," Zywicki said. "We just had to call the game."

The Redbirds, who scored just before halftime on a 6-yard pass from quarterback Cameron Ruef to fullback Eli Fitzsimons, looked to use that momentum for the second half, trailing 28-14. However, things suddenly took a turn for the worse

for the home team, which fumbled the opening kickoff and Platteville's Louis Nzegwu recovered.

That turnover led to a Hillmen touchdown, a 7-yard pass from Kyle Wagner to Curt Peacock, putting the Hillmen up, 35-14, with eight minutes remaining in the third.

"We had a lot of mental mistakes," Zywicki said. "The lack of focus we had today caused us to struggle from the get-go."

It was then that players began dropping in pain as heat cramps plagued both sides of the field. Several players were sidelined, including Fitzsimons from Darlington and Nzgewu from Platteville. Fitzsimons ended the night with 72 rushing yards.

Another Darlington turnover put an end to the game, as Platteville defensive back Ryan Siegert picked off a tipped pass and ran it back for a 30-yard score.

Darlington took an 8-7 lead on a 62-yard touchdown run from Kyler Wiegel.

Platteville's offense didn't skip a beat all day. Wagner completed 10 of 19 passes for 205 yards, including two in the end zone to Michael Place. The duo connected eight times for 178 receiving yards.

"I was nervous going into the game, but once I got out there, I felt really good," Wagner said. "The guys were running their routes really hard and we want to keep this momentum going for the rest of the season."

Nzegwu rushed for 106 yards and two 6-yard touchdowns on 13 carries.

Pirates clip 'Cats in thrillerControversial TD dive by Decker keys Galena win[link=http://www.thonline.com/contactstaff.cfm?articleid=129199]by CLETE CAMPBELL[/link]

Galena quarterback Gavin Kaiser runs past Southwestern defenders Cory Goranson (middle) and Joey Hilby during action in Friday's non-conference opener in Galena, Ill. The Pirates used late heroics to escape with a 20-14 win.

GALENA, Ill. - Galena running back Brandon Decker swears he broke into the bank. Southwestern coach Dave Wills is certain his security forces nabbed Decker at the door.

Friday night's pulsating season-opening interstate duel between the Wildcats and the Illinois Class 1A No. 8-ranked Pirates came down to a furious goal-line standoff as time expired. Officials ruled Decker broke the plane of the goal line on a 1-yard dive as time expired to give Galena a hair-raising 20-14 victory over a game Southwestern team at Coach Korte Field.

The front wave of Southwestern's goal-line wall repelled Decker on his initial push to the end zone. But Decker rolled off the pile and used an aggressive second effort to break the plane.

"I rolled off and just fell into the end zone," Decker said.
Southwestern coaches vehemently contended that Decker's knee touched the ground before the ball crossed the goal line.

TH video replays of Decker's dive (available at http://www.thonline.com) couldn't offer conclusive evidence.

"It wasn't even close," Wildcats

coach Dave Wills said. "He was on the ground. It should have been overtime. We had them stopped. It's just a bad call by the refs.

"Galena's a great team, don't get me wrong. But I feel bad for my kids."
Either way, Galena scored the victory behind a bruising effort by Decker and its offensive line. Decker trucked for a game-high 105 yards on 30 carries and was sprung loose for key gains by blockers Vince Newton, Josh Sproule, Danny Moser, Nick Winders, Ted Nack and David Heitkamp throughout the game - and most critically - on the Pirates' game-winning drive.

"(The O-line) came through for us," Pirates coach Ed Freed said. With the game on the line "we were going to give it to our money guy. There's no secrets. They knew who was coming. The offensive line found a way. And Brandon's final effort got it across."

Galena's line held up against an aggressive Southwestern defensive line, anchored by 6-foot-4, 275-pound senior Joe Vogt, that got stronger as the game wore on.

"They were sending as many people into the holes as they could," said Newton, Galena's 5-foot-10, 220-pound junior center. "My goal was to go low and get there hard and fast."

Both teams squandered opportunities to gain the momentum for the stretch run. Southwestern had two passes intercepted and Galena watched a second-quarter drive die at the Wildcats 1-yard line on a Gavin Kaiser fumble.

But Kaiser immediately atoned for the mistake by returning a Southwestern punt 42 yards for a touchdown to give Galena a 14-7 advantage with 6:50 left in the first half.

But Blake Martin took the ensuing kickoff through a pair of Galena tacklers and up the right sideline for a 94-yard return that deadlocked the game at 14.

Martin added a 48-yard first-quarter TD run for Southwestern. Galena fired the game's opening TD salvo on a 23-yard scoring strike from Kaiser - who left the game in the third quarter with a leg cramp - to Irving Pulido.

And in the end, the Pirates found a way, however disputed, to the win.
"We got really tested today," Freed said. "We won. That's the bottom line. It doesn't matter how you do it."
