Yesterday Max Kellerman was filling in for Dan Patrick on the Dan Patrick Show. He said that salary caps are unfair to teams like the Knicks and Lakers who play in the country's largest markets. He went on to say that these teams have more fans and the ability to produce more revenue. This revenue, he believed, should be used to sign high priced superstars. He later said that the salary cap unjustly subsidizes small market teams because it allows them to sign and maintain superstar caliber players who should be in New York and L.A. These cities are bigger and have more fans, whom Kellerman feels deserve to see a championship level team year in and year out. I think Kellerman's theory is the most ignorant, New York City guy assessment I've ever heard on ESPN radio. I ask him how can the Milwaukees, San Antonios, and other small market organizations compete. All the teams in the NBA are part of a competitive league. Therefore, I feel salary caps are neccessary to police the large market teams from monopolizing the NBA. I would like to here comments on this. Please tell me I'm not the only one who sees a problem with the idea that the NBA's high profile cities have a fast track to the title because they have more money. My stance may be anti-American or not agree with our capitolistic class structures, but I think we need to keep the playing fields even in the sports realm of society.

If that were the case than the league would have a hard time sustaining itself. While New York and LA certainly bring in the most money they dont bring in all of it. The game would become specific to certain markets and lose it's appeal to the rest of the country that doesnt have teams anymore since they cant afford to compete with the Big markets.

There are reasons why Max Kellerman's TV show on the FSN legion of networks did not survive very long and why FSN let him go........(to get back on ESPN of course) and idiotic and irresponsible comments like that are why Max Kellerman can't seem to keep a job.
