Before the season started, I commented on how I thought this was going to be a great season for Rickie because his hand is finally healthy and he can have a whole season to prove himself. But then yesterday he feels a pull in it and takes himself out. Now the organization is all hush-hush including Rickie about the extent of the "injury." I guess I won't freak out until I hear the words "Dr James Andrews" and then I may have some issues. But just how bad is it? This is a huge blow to the Crew, it really is. He has been making solid contact all year and has been the spark plug at the top of the order for the Crew. Now its not to the extent of losing a Braun or a Fielder, but now you throw some things into flux. This means probably Counsell starting at 2nd and Hall/Gamel at 3rd coming up quickly. If this injury lingers on all year, then you may see some of these young guys getting a lot of playing time.

Guess I am looking to see what others think. Maybe I am reading too much into Weeks' comments when he said he doesn't want to talk to the media right now. But he is not in St Louis anymore and will hopefully rejoin the team in Houston, barring different news on the injury. If he goes on the DL, what do you see the Brewers doing? I think you see them bring up TGJ and not Escobar. McGahee, Hall and Counsell can all play 2nd and you already have a couple backup infielders. Duffy is the only backup outfielder. TGJ is actually not playing too bad right now for Nashville. Do they really want to bring up Escobar and have him start playing 2nd? Despite what people think, playing 2nd is a lot different than playing SS. The angles are different and so are the turns on DPs.

I guess we'll see what the doctors say.

I thought it was his wrist, which is something he has battled his whole career.

I worry about them saying he just needs a couple of days off or there is nothing structurally wrong with it and he just has to play through the pain. which is easier said with a hand or wrist injury. so he tries to play and ends up in a horrific slump.

As far as who they bring up, I don't think it will be Escobar. TGJ might not be a bad choice. But if they decide to keep Gamel up and Catalano or whatever his name is, ends up hitting well then they may bring him up to fill the pinch hitter/reserve outfielder role.

It is his wrist. I called it the hand because the hand would encompass the wrist and the thumb and that whole area. Sorry.

I see them bringing up Catalanatto before TGJ. Here's something you gotta remember, if Weeks goes on the DL, and with Gamel up right now, it brings about a lot of options. Because with the Cat and TGJ, your going to have to get them through waivers when Weeks comes back if you want to send them down, and not Gamel if he performs very well. Even though they took the chance at the beginning of the year, they may not want to risk it anymore with TGJ, and keep him working and getting better, which is why I think they do it with the Cat. He was a free agent for the entire 1st month of the season, so it'll probably be a lot easier to get him through waviers if they need to send him back down.
