Could someone please tell me how Reedsburg won state at division III-and also beat Waunakee-but all of their kids were passed over for almost all the end of season awards? Just wondering. I can see if last year were an isolated visit to state-but it was not. I don't know if you go by stats or who looks good in a uniform or you pick their names from a hat-what gives?

Who would you have on which team ahead of who?

It isn't my role to knock other players-that isn't why I wrote in-it's to see what our school is doing wrong. There was not one kid from Reedsburg in the all state team. How do you go to state and win it and beat the Div II team without a couple of horses on your team?

Reedsburg had an outstanding TEAM effort. Chad Mazur could have been a candidate for some HM recognition, but there were some pretty QB's left off as it was. Matt Lennon was still outstanding, but didn't put up the stats he did last year. Shane Rockweiler was very good at linebacker, but defense is one of the toughest positions to picks kids at. Nate Brey and Seth Brandt also were very good. Ultimately, keep in mind to get on any of these lists a player has to be named 1st team all-conference. Reedsburg only had four kids total that were 1st team all-conference (Mazur, Brey, Rockweiler, Archambo).

Your right it was a team effort-but why only 4 on 1st team when they beat the team with most of the number one picks?

Reedsburg did beat Waunakee by a score of 15-10 but they also lost 28-0 to DeForest (also a tri-champ) which might have influenced some coaches when it came to all-conference voting. With only 4 players as 1st team, it does come down to a numbers and position game for all-state awards. Mazur was a great running QB but so many coaches look at passing numbers when it comes to all-state awards. For every Mazur, there are 5 kids who played in a spread offense and have some great passing numbers to show for it. Rockweiler was good at LB, but there are alot of great LB's in the state and unless you are on some pre-season top player list, your chances are pretty slim.

You referenced one game and made it sound as if more people deserved AC honors because of it. Not real hard to understand.

As if I wasn't already annoyed by Reedsburg fans after their over-indulgent celebration of the Waunakee win, now there's this.

You got the whole pie, enjoy it. Don't be a pissant about All-Conference and All-State honors. Reedsburg's conference was very good, with lots of good players, and there are more great players state-wide, some whose teams just weren't very good.

Savor the fact that your team had 20+ kids who were good enough to all have a major hand in winning a state championship...Most teams (and great players along with them) aren't as fortunate.

I just hate it when somebody from a state championship starts sniffing out individual recognition (claiming that because they won state someone must have been snubbed) but can't present a justifiable case for even a single player. This topic should have ended after Travis's second post.

Your post was very telling and informative. As I left Camp Randall on November 20th I wished good luck to every purple Waunakee shirt I saw because I thought that it was awesome the two Badger North teams did so well. I think that it is interesting that you feel that the Reedsburg fans were "over-indulgent" with the Waunakee win-I didn't know that was possible on the home field-if you didn't like the celebration-you should not have stayed. You should have seen the crowds at DeForest and Oregon when they beat us this year. Good for them-they played better than us. We did get the whole pie and it was as sweet as yours-but a nagging question always will loom and that was my question stated earlier. I was not "sniffing out" recognition simply stating the obvious. This post is for the kids that are coming up that will be overlooked by the same people in the same positions, doing the same things to do the self-promotion that they feel is coming to them because they feel self-important. You can hate all you want if that makes you feel better than all the rest of us in the Badger Conference or in high school football period. I'm not going to mention people's names-I don't have their permission and I cannot speak for them. You know who they are. I only hope that you are not the future of high school football-because that would be a shame, as you seem to have a great deal of hate and ire stored within your thoughts. AND last time I checked this is a forum and I do have the right to my opinion.

LOL, are you serious?

Talk about completely miscontruing and misunderstanding the point I was trying to make.

The only hate and ire stored in my thoughts is reserved for the people who just don't get it. I have absolutely no affiliation to anything anywhere near the Badger Conference. And my irritation with Reedsburg fans came from the fact that they wouldn't stop talking about the win over Waunakee on these message boards like it was the greatest thing since Tommy Bartlett's Water Show, even when asked to temper it down a bit. It was out of hand. Once they stopped, I was fine with Reedsburg again.

"This post is for the kids that are coming up that will be overlooked by the same people in the same positions, doing the same things to do the self-promotion that they feel is coming to them because they feel self-important."

What does that even mean? Who's they? The people giving out the awards? The people who win them? OK? Doesn't someone always have a gripe with who gets what post-season award? All I know, is that a state championship is not an automatic qualifier for All-State recognition. If anything, the fact that Reedsburg lacked the All-Staters that other teams had is a testament to the quality of team they had. Don't ruin it by making a mountain out of molehill...especially when the molehill has an awesome view.

Finally, you've yet to bring forth any case for kids, apparently now both present and future, that have been overlooked for state recognition. Instead, you've turned the spearpoint on me. As I said, Travis's second post was the best possible answer that could be given to your inquiry, yet you've chose to push on further...why? You're not the first person to complain about a perceived "lack of recognition," but you may be the first to use this method.
