I fully expect the WIAA to prevail in this case.  The consequences of them not winning are wide ranging and will be detrimental to all of HS sport across the nation.

If anything comes of this I think it will be a more strict membership requirement and some sort of addition or statement that says by joining the WIAA members agree that the calls and judgments of all refs during contests are final and cannot be disputed.

Another story with some insight from Halter's side.

https://usatodayhss.com/2019/wiaa-files-appeal-that-could-lead-to-the-return-of-awards-in-the-case-of-waterfords-wis-hayden-halter

Kind of funny that just because the tournament is over they think the matter should be dropped because "it wouldn't do anything."   They poked the bear and expected the bear to roll over.

You won't hear me say this often, but good for the WIAA and go all the way on this one.

I hope they bury him. He deserves nothing, and his family obviously endorses his behavior. The world needs ditch-diggers too.

every student and/or parent already agrees to abide by WIAA rules:  https://www.wiaawi.org/Portals/0/PDF/Eligibility/eligibilityinfoform.pdf

Then put some teeth into it.

***   ADDED

Seems easy enough to slide in:  "All decisions of in game officials is final."

And maybe even, "Any dispute of in game officials calls will be brought before the WIAA BOC. Any attempt to circumvent this process will result in immediate suspension of membership status for the school and all individual members of that school."

UPDATE 4/16/19

https://journaltimes.com/sports/high-school/high-school-wrestling-court-denies-wiaa-s-appeal-in-halter/article_dec95e7c-129d-5d84-b0e6-75dbe6a1440c.html

Seems as if a varsity level player can serve suspensions in sub varsity games.  Can hardly wait to see seniors suited up on JV2 and JV team benches to serve a 2 game suspension and then play in the varsity game later that night.

Basically tells me that no WIAA rules are enforceable should anyone want to take them to court.  This is very worrisome if you are the WIAA and any state org across the country.

And we now have the Halter Rule.

Of the Editorial Changes, the most interesting one adds language that students ejected from a contest must serve their suspension at the same level of competition as the disqualification. Wonder what that is applying to?

When you say "they" are you referring to the WIAA or to the family?

I can't believe a kid was going to have to miss state for flexing, especially considering a wrestler, at state, flexed at the crowd every other match.

It's poetic justice that a ref has this huge leeway to call basically whatever he wants with aggrieved parties having no recourse, but that the kid gets out of it because the state court system tells the ref's employer, the WIAA, that it *DOESN'T* have any leeway and that the rules (vis-a-vis serving a varsity suspension on JV) have to be spelled out explicitly but weren't.

A classic "What's good for the goose is good for the gander" situation.
