A crazy scene played out in middle Wisconsin today when a man went on a rampage killing 3 civilians and 1 police officer. From what I've heard, a husband found out his wife was divorcing him and received his divorce paperwork today. He found his wife at a bank, shot his wife and another person (potentially somebody with the wife), then went to the law office tht served him with his wife's divorce paperwork killing another there. He then retreated to his home where an officer pursued him on foot and was shot and killed.

It was 3 major scenes, all developing in a matter of a few hours. Knowing how a police agency like Wausau would respond to a shooting, I can't imagine the tax of resources and ability to manage each scene, not to even begin to mention an officer being shot and eventually dying.

It was a horrible tragedy, and a sad situation all around. I hope the community can rally from this.

The fallen female attorney was my high school girlfriend's niece. I've known the family for almost 50 years. The victim's Mom & Dad are natives of Marshfield, although they have been Wausau residents for decades. The victim's Mom (my old girlfriend's sister) was a teacher in the Wausau school district and her Dad owns & operates a longtime Family Dentistry in Wausau.

The shooter did not shoot his wife at the bank, although she was employed there. He shot & killed 2 other bank employees, both in their 60's. He then proceeded down Grand Ave in Schofield to the attorney's office, shooting & killing the female attorney (his wife's lawyer) there. He then went to his daughter's grade school, but was unable to enter because the school was already in lockdown (one can only speculate what his motives were there). He then proceeded to his apartment complex where he holed up. He killed the policeman at the apartment complex as the officer was attempting to secure the building and create a perimiter. Eventually, the shooter engaged in approximately a 3-hr shootout/standoff with police at the apartment complex which ended with the shooter being shot & wounded. He was taken into medical custody, where he remains in ICU. He has yet to charged.

Read elsewhere that the man had previously worked at Marathon Cheese. Asked my brother if he had ever worked with him or remembered him and he said no. A bit eerie to think that I was just in town the previous weekend and went down Grand Ave and some of the places that were mentioned.

Another example of how difficult it is being a police officer. It really is a thankless job. Very sad situation overall. I feel for all who were involved.
