So, I am a month shy of 26 and getting my wisdom teeth taken out.

I had one removed 5 years ago because it was growing in sideways. I have one that is in completely, one that is partially impacted and one that is nearly completely impacted.

I have the surgery on Thursday at about noon.

My Question: What foods should I have? Obviously something that I don't need to chew. But like Pudding, maybe some soups? ice cream? Yogurt? I am a fat guy so I won't starve, but there has to be some food intake.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I found that luke-warm soup and pudding were the best when I had them done. I let the soup cool a little bit and stayed away from the ice cream after trying them and determining that my mouth was sensitive to the extremes in either direction. Don't forget to take any pain meds too, especially before the anesthetic from the office wears off. Good luck with the recovery!

I got through mine without too much pain. Only took one pain pill since I couldn't sleep. Your situation sounds like it may be a little bit worse though. My favorite foods were apple sauce, jello, and soup. As others said make sure the soup is not too hot.

I have heard horror stories and had friends that experienced some bad things but mine went smooth and had relatively no pain.

I just had my tonsils out which really sucked, and I couldn't eat real foods for 5-6 days. You probably will heal a bit faster than that, but the two foods that helped me were protein shakes and eggs. Go to the store and get some chocolate protein shake--I blended it with milk, peanut butter and a scoop of ice cream and a big glass of it would sustain me for most of the start of the (inactive) day. I'm reasonably small though.

Also, if you whip eggs and then microwave them they're really fluffy--you barely would need to chew them and they're extremely soft. They're good with ketchup too because I got sick of having no salt and soup is actually surprisingly hard to eat without chewing. You need to chew all the best parts of soup, in my opinion.

Applesauce. I went through like 5 large jars of it. But I love applesauce.

I also found out that chewing tobacco the second day was bittersweet. A bit painful, risking dry sockets, but the best buzz you'll ever have.

I must say, it was not pleasant to wake up mid extraction...... the Bottom 2 were both infected down in the roots, so that was not a fun thing at all.

OMG .... not cool!

Newly-annointed dentist or anesthetist, just out of dental or nursing school, having graduated in the bottom quarter of their class ..... ? [huh]

On the bright side, that's a lot better than getting too much anesthetic.

I don't know what she was, other than cute..... She complimented my veins, so it wasn't a matter of me being difficult, just her having a bad day if it was in fact her fault.

What vein(s) was she so impressed by, Mikey? [:-]
