Playoffs are here. How will the small be represented in them? Thoughts, here are mine.

Almond- Almond is well coached, hustling, smart, and good defensive team. They shoud have no problem winning their first game against Marion. I see them losing in thier Regional Final against Columbus Catholic, by a hefty margin.

Bowler-Bower has truly been a dissapointment all year. They have basically been the same team all year. They are appeard one dimensional to me, with Nillissen taking a large chunk of thier shots. They have enough talent to go somewhere, but things need to change. Bowler will lose in thier regional final.

Gresham- I guess you can say that they have stepped it up, with a 15 point win over Port Edwards in overtime. Malueg, Burcholtz should have a nice outting to upset Wabeno in the first round, but then lose to Bowler by about 12 in the second round.

Iola- No need to add more fuel to the fire. Rosholt may pose a threat in the Reg-Sub-Finals. If thet meet Amherst in the Reg-Finals, they will need to focus on controlling Nate Martin, because if he goes off, he will open up tremendous oppurtunitues for his teamates and Iola's defense is been poor. Althugh, I see Iola beating Gillet in the Sectional Semis and the losinf to Roncalli.

Marion- Marion works hard, they are well coached, but this year the lack a sufficient amount of talent. They will lose to Almond in the first round.

Port Edwards-They have really turned it up lately, I feel they will beat New Lisbon, and then lose in a nail-bitter to Blair-Taylor. Port could make the regional finals, with how they have been playing. They have played putsatnding defense, hustled, and hit tough shots.

Rosholt- Rosholt is decent for a D3 school, but Check and company will get knocked out by the offensive power house Iola.

Tigerton- Have done a lot more than expected, I foresee them as beating Bowler in the Regional Final and then losing to Suring in the Sectionals.

Wild Rose- Has been strong all year, but sense a little decline and athletes feeling too complacent (sp?). Wild Rose is in a tough regional, they wil get knocked out by Spencer in round 2.

Iola will make it to state as long as they worry about one game at a time. Rosholt or Amherst won't be a walk in the park as they have found out this year already.
Connor Kurki could be starting QB for Badgers this year no doubt!!

And Pacelli is in that regional, who has gotten better since the sentry classic. They have beaten Amherst twice this year.

You know what I change my opinion, I feel Bowler will knock off Tigerton in the Regional Finals, I don't think Tigerton is three games better than Bowler, by any means.

I honestly believe Gresham won't be able to beat Wabeno on Tuesday. It's just an opinion but we'll see on Tuesday![/font]

Ooops, wrong.

The I-S T-BIRDS are locked and loaded for a run at state. Mike Griffin is so good that he has another gear he is saving for playoffs. Morgan, Gunderson and the rest of the crew are hungry and ready to destroy their competition.
I really believe that there is no better team as far as potential goes... if the coach can get this potential out of his players, I really believe that they can handle Roncalli.

I do know that Roncalli is well coached from watching them dismantle the Birds last year, but that was last year. I heard the coach has a game plan ready for them and the players have all worked very hard this past year and should be a seasoned, playoff-ready team.

Im going to attempt to analyze some of what you said in this statement you made.

"Mike Griffin is so good that he has another gear he is saving for the playoffs." I have seen Iola play 7 times this year, and agree that Griffin is a good ball player. But lets get real, if you think that someone can instantly turn it up and have more intensity when they step out on the floor just isnt practical. If he hasnt done it up to this point, dont plan on seeing him do anything different.

Im glad they have the hunger to win and whoever wants it most is a good thing. But wanting and doing are two completely different things... we'll see what happens.

"I really believe that there is no better team as far as potential goes." I agree. Iola has the potential to be a great team. Unfortunatly potential doesnt win games. I realize they have a good ball club, but i will go as to say their defense is anything but impressive. If they think they are all of a sudden crank it up another notch just because the playoffs are here they are going to be sorely mistaken.

" I really believe Iola can HANDLE Roncalli." I dont think Iola is going to HANDLE Roncalli. Should be a good game, but I think you are underestimating a very good team a little too much. Not to mention they are going to have some to games to get to that point in the first place (possible opponents that I believe could give Iola troubles: Colby, Rosholt, Pacelli, Ameherst)

"I heard the coach has a game plan ready for them." Their is no reason that Coach Bertsch should even be putting together a game plan for Roncalli right now. They have to win FOUR games before this could even happen. Maybe he should prepare gameplans for those 4 before he thinks about making one for Roncalli.

"The players have all worked very hard this past year and should be a seasoned, playoff ready team." I would hope the are a seasoned team that has been working hard, good for them. They had a lot of success last year and making it to the sectional finals is an impressive feat. But what you also need to think about and realize that other teams have worked hard too. To call Roncalli anything but a well seasoned playoff team who works EXTREMELY hard would be ridiculous. They have been to state 2 years in a row. Enough said.

Both teams (Roncalli and Iola) are going to have to play to the best of their ability to make it back to a rematch of last year. Anyone can be beat, and what teams realize is from here on out one loss and youre done. Itll be intresting to see what happens, but its March and anything can happen.

first off... IS shouldnt look past amherst or pacelli as they are good teams and play a tougher schedule than IS. second Roncalli shouldnt look past SMC or W-F. Both teams will have tough teams to beat to get their.

I agree with you i think my words were a little to harsh in that one statement. Yes im sure youve seen Roncalli apparel at many Iola games (as i said ive been to 7 games) and i agree its sometimes a good idea to break down tapes ahead of time a little bit. 2 weeks in advance maybe a little excessive though in my mind. Iola has a tough regional to come out of (as does Roncalli). I think its one thing to go scout a team and get a feel for what they do and another thing to write up a whole gameplan for a team 5 games away. If tapes begin to be analyzed my guess is it shouldnt be until this weekend, it doesnt pay to do it much ahead of that due to the fact that either of these teams have some tough games ahead of them this week. Thats all i meant by that statement.
