pdc dominated both these teams.. these brackets are outrageous

Park is a 7 seed?!?! You got to be kidding me! Wow! Teams like Tremper and Bradford whom they beat and have a better record than get much higher seeds, that just doesn't seem right. Even though playing a city league school isn't the worst thing in the world something is just wrong with the way they do this seeding. Please tell me if I'm wrong.

only teams 1-4 are seeded, who they play is based on geography...

Thanks for the clarification. I still don't understand how they were not a 1-4 seed though.

River Valley and PDC are both 5-2 in conference, but RV's 7-2 overall record trumps PDC's 6-3 record.

Like PDC, Platteville wasn't given a seed and their opponent was based on geography.

Interesting on Stratford/Edgar. How many other conference #1 and #2 are on OPPOSITE sides of the brackets?

But on the other side of the bracket, Somerset beat Baldwin-Woodville and both finished 6-1 in the MBC. So because of that win over Baldwin-Woodville, Somerset (6-3) got the 2nd seed where as Baldwin-Woodville (8-1) got the 3 seed even though they still had the better overall record. So why do that on one side of the bracket and not the other with Valley and PdC?

A couple years ago, 2 highly regarded (specific teams escape me right now) teams from the old Olympian were on opposite sides of the D5 Bracket leading to speculation of an All-Olympian Conference State Final.

I believe in the case of co-conference champs they draw ahead of time to determine who gets the designation of the singular conference champ when it comes to seedings. In determining conference champs (within one conference only) they don't go to overall record as the next criteria, it's a simple luck of the draw.

You may want to double check that.

Page 4

[link=http://www.wiaawi.org/rules/football/footballregs.pdf]It's a big tricky but check this out [/link]

c. Tournament placement in the football playoffs is not seeding in the true sense of the word (1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, etc.). In each eight team grouping, only four teams will be "seeded" 1-4, determined in the following order of criteria:

Note: Conferences must continue to have tie-breaker procedures to determine conference champion.

(1) Unbeaten conference champion.
(2) Conference champion, one loss.
(3) Co-conference champion, one loss.
(4) Tri-conference champion, one loss.
(5) Head to head competition (when applicable)
(6) Highest Conference Finish (undisputed runnerup/3rd/4th before co-runnerup/3rd/4th, co-runnerup/3rd/4th before
tri-runnerup/3rd/4th, etc.)
(7) Overall W-L percentage in all games, conference & nonconference
(8) Combined W-L percentage of defeated conference opponents (conference games)
(9) Record against common opponents (when applicable)
(10) First half points allowed/per game average - through week 8 (conference games)

You are correct, each conference determines it's own way of choosing champions (for WIAA purposes) using it's own system. Most conferences recognize co-champs in their official conference histories and do not break it down by tiebreaker. The tiebreakers usually only come into play for playoff seeding. I know the Ridge and Valley used a drawing to break a potential three way tie at the top this year. I apologize for creating any confusion.
