ESPN is reporting that Paplebon will be the Red Sox closer because no one else in Papelbon's words "stepped up and said I want it."

My negative score is a result of an obsession that sportsfan has with me. Help win this battle of good vs. evil, give me a +2!

i wasn't a huge fan of him putting him in the rotation. to me he seemed more vauleable in that spot especially with the sox's shotty pen.

I dont see why they just didnt keep Paplebon as the closer and Joel Pinero as the starter, Paplebon was one of the most dominate pitchers last season as the closer and Pinero has started pretty much his whole career.

On Brewerfan some people were commenting on the Sox's rotation being something like Schilling, Beckett, Matzusaka, Wakefield, Tavarez(??).

I had no idea Tavarez could start. Is Lester supposed to start the year at AAA, I'm not sure how many Red Sox fans we have here but seems like Papelbon could be used in the rotation, they must have tried to go after a closer in the offseason and failed.

travarez pitched alot of innings with the cards. him in the 5 spot kind of makes sense if that is the only option.

Tavarez has a rubber arm so I wouldnt doubt it. I also dont think Lester will be on the 25 man roster (unless his options are up) because hes just coming back from cancer treatment. The Red Soxs have some big names in their rotation but the rotation is an extremely questionable one. Pinero was the guy they went after yfinn, Timlin is another guy that I read was given a shot, idk how he did though, obviously not good im guessing.

I think I saw on the ESPN ticker that Timlin will start the season on the DL.

Plus Timlin is getting up there in age, I'm sure their confidence in him being able to pitch in the 9th in 3 consecutive days in not high. He can pitch and be effective, but in the 9th inning is a little different than the 7th and 8th IMO.
