Until this year he was as good as any kicker in the league up to 39 yards. And he was average-above average in the next 10 yards.

The problem with just looking at the percentages is that a missed 50 yarder is the same as a missed 30 yarder. Mason has attempted more 40+ yarders in the past 3 seasons than many other kickers....which hurts the overall stats. and in a position where 1-2 extra misses can really swing a percentage.....do the math. And this year his 40+ have just nosedived...which makes his 2 misses in the 30s look that much worse.

My concern is when he's missing them. He's arguably cost the Packers 3-5 games in the last 2 seasons, and his 4th quarter percentage is around 60% for this season...which is very bad.

We can dice the stats any way we want. But I agree, if a kicker can't make them when they are needed, what good is the kicker.

I can say with 100% honesty that I read none of that...

but I am sure you put a whole helluva lot of time into it and it was well thought out...

maybe try to focus on the finer points next time and keep it short and simple and maybe someone of my stature will read that next time

Can I get some opinions on the matthews forced fumble of ben early in the game? I would look back through the thread but I would like to see what you guys have to say the day after. Personally I think it was a ridiculous call and is somewhat overlooked in the outcome of the game. If we get the ball in that situation we have 1st and 10 at the 25ish and I believe we would have scored a td at that point. Instead we get the ball at our 30 and eventually our drive is stalled and we end up missing the fg.

Well I'm not surprised at all but dangit man did I have a lot to vent about. And plus there was so much that went wrong I couldn't keep it short. Otherwise then I would have.

Ben wound up to throw the ball...it started out behind his head and was moving forward. Mathews hit the ball after Ben's hand traveled a few inches forward.
That must be enough to say it was a pass.

How about the challenge that was lost by Green Bay on the MEndanhal (I believe catch). I never saw the tv version as I was travelling and just listening. But the announcers made it sound like it was obvious he was not in bounds. For those of you who saw it, was it the right call?

Just one of those gut-wrenching losses. It took me a few hours to relax once the game ended, and I was very upset with Bigby standing in the end zone, close to 15 yards away from any receiver.

While getting to 10-4 and having the Vikings drop to 11-3 would have made things a bit interesting over the final two weeks (especially with Minn going TO Chicago) I wasn't holding out much hope for a division title. This loss didn't drop the Packers out of the #5 seed at all, so win out and nothing was hurt. I got asked to go to the game this Sunday, and I can't wait. I live for December Packer games, and the last time I was at a Packers-Seahawks game, something along these lines happened...

A positive is that some of the most gut-wrenching losses in Packers history (2007 NFC Championship, 4th and 26, the TO TD) were in the playoffs, at least this one was only Week 15.

I read every bullet point and I think almost every single one was probably the wrong opinion of the issue you were trying to pick a side on.
