Was Cundiff sleeping with Thompson's wife or McCarthy's daughter?

This doesn't make sense unless he crossed somebody...

from packers.com about Rayner

Claimed off waivers by Green Bay this past April 6 after being released by the Colts

Was Indianapolis? sixth-round selection in 2005 draft

Holds Michigan State records for points (334), field goals made (62) and extra points (148); concluded his career by connecting on 76 consecutive PAT tries

i hate the move of releasing Cundiff as well.

I kind of like this move. Pick a guy, stick behind him and live with your decision. Sherman would have kept both kickers until week 8.

At least it was a backup plan if one of them failed, now we really dont have one.

what if Rayner breaks his foot in the last preseason game, wouldn't you keep an extra kicker till the final cutdown day?

Both kickers are terrible. Either way they would have been screwed. I think the biggest mistake was letting longwell go and then stopping the pursuit of Vinatieri.

Thompsom & McCarthy probably thinks someone better will be available soon.

Give the better candidate the chance, if he proves worthy, keep him, if not, get another guy who you think is better that gets cut!

I really do not like this move. This has already been said, but why wouldn't you wait until the cutting date to cut a kicker? I also think Cundiff would have done just fine in Green Bay. He isnt as bad as a lot of people think he is. He must have messed up big time or something.
A Playoff will be much more fair than the BCS.

I say it isn't a bad move. Cundiff had a hard time making anything over 45 yards in good conditions right now, how would he make a medium to long kick in December? While Cundiff is the "safe" choice, you don't always get better by being safe. I think they gave the guy with the big leg the opportunity and if he blows it, they pick someone up later.

As far as keeping Shortwell, didn't he cost us a few games last year? Why keep a guy with his attitude as well. Whenever he missed he started pointing fingers. Not exactly the type of player you want to count on when things got tough.

I guess I'm not too worried about the Pack cutting Cundiff, besides a kicker is probably the easiest to judge talent-wise...the coaching staff obviously saw something we didn't in Rayner.

I think Edinger would've done just fine in Green Bay. He was a pretty decent kicker in Chicago, and most of the time its pretty cold there, so he could have done fine in Green Bay.

Well, I just got back from the game and the current kicker put more kickoff's into the end zone in one game than Shortwell did in an entire career. Only once did the Falcons return one past the thirty. They usually had a starting sport between the 20-25. It helps the D when your kicker gives you that type of field position.

They didn't "let Longwell go". He wanted to go. He said he wanted to pursue a career in a dome where he could make more kicks than in Lambeau Field where the wind was always a factor. He had no intentions of resigning with Green Bay. And Vinny was using the Packers to get more money out of Indy. He wasn't coming here either!

When watching the game I was thinking man I haven't seen this many kicks go into the end zone in the last 3 years combined.
