Xavier @ Little Chute seems to be the biggest game coming up on Friday as both teams tied for the conference championship last year. It should be another great game in a series that has proved to be very entertaining in the past few years. Little Chute is 2-0 and have a good quality win with a 1 point decision over Notre Dame tonight. Xavier has an 0-3 record but they have played three division 1 teams including a very tough Appleton East team. I think Little Chute pulls it off but it is going to be very close. Little Chute by 3.

Waupaca at Hortonville - This has become one heck of a football rivalry but I am not sure if the basketball rivalry has reached the fever pitch of the gridiron. A very talented Waupaca squad which is my favorite to win the valley 8 beats a much improved Polar Bear squad by 8.

Clintonville at Freedom - Toughest game of the night t pick. Should be a great game by two teams fighting to break into elite status in the valley 8. In my opinion this game is a close second to LC - Xavier. This one should go down to the wire but I am going to have to go with my darkhorse pick. Clintonville by 1.

Oconto Falls @ FVL - FVL gets it done at home versus the Panthers of Oconto Falls. After 2 losses FVL will play very well. This game will feature the widest margin of victory for openin night in the valley 8. FVL by 12.

If Hortonville's varstiy is abandoning ship like posted previously you sure 12 will be enough?

I have to stop picking games! One out of four is not very good.

Xavier's quickness and ability to make 3s was the difference against LC. The game started true to form with Xavier shooting form the perimeter and LC in the paint. Unfortunately trading 3s for 2s puts you at a defict. Add to the fact that by half Xavier had 8 or 9 free throws made and LC had only taken one total and you wind up down 11 at the half. If Xavier continues to shoot that hot from 3 they are going to give a lot of bigger, more physical teams fits.

LC got it down to 6 with a chance to go down by 5 in the 3rd, but couldn't get it any closer and then Xavier put on a real burst in the 4th. For the most part the game was better and more evenly played that the final score showed.

This isn't a complaint, just a comment...I found the officiating to be really unpredictable. One quick example. LC has a fast break opportunity. The shooter goes in for a layup and totally bowls over the defender. A foul should have been called on somebody...it could have been charging or a foul on the shot...but no call. LC grabbed the rebounded miss and made the basket.

Xavier goes back down the court. Same LC player has his hands up and maintains position as the shooter jumps in to him and they call a foul...2 shots. Just seemed to be confusing.
