In the 2020 Conference Realignment that was passed almost a year ago, Menominee, MI, was accepted into the North Eastern Conference, keeping the conference at seven teams. I'm not too informed about rules and regulations of the MHSAA playoffs, but it appears Menominee's waiver to allow them to still participate in Michigan's post season if they made this move was denied soon after. Menominee now plays a full (if you can even call it that) schedule in the GNC for 2020. What I did notice is that the teams of the North Eastern Conference that no longer have Menominee scheduled now have Kingsford scheduled, as does Shawano from the Bay. Do the games against Menominee and Kingsford count as conference games for the NEC teams, and is Shawano's game against Kingsford counted as a crossover game? I don't believe the WIAA has said anything regarding the Menominee situation other than they would address it after the proposal passed and was put into place if there were complications with the MHSAA.

They almost have to be. The handful of North Eastern schedules I looked at all have the non-conference designation next to Weeks 1-2, but games against Menominee and Kingsford do not...and since everybody has to have seven conference results for playoff purposes...

From what I can recall both will be counted as conference games. It is also beneficial for both Menominee and Kingsford both whom have relied heavily on scheduling Wisconsin teams for non-conference in the past, to fill their schedules and not having to go several hours to the lower peninsula to find games.

From what I have gathered, the closest LP conference similar in size has also stepped up to help out the GNC. Marquette and Escanaba tried to join but two of the league members blocked it. However that could change down the road. We'll see where we are at with Kingsford and Menominee and #Wisfb in two years time.

The UP Great Northern is only a five team league. The WestPAC (the only other 11-man league in UP) basically shut itself off from the GNC by playing crossovers between the two divisions. Sault Ste. Marie, and St. Ignace both play in a LP league and everyone else is playing 8-man football.

I think the MHSAA should've allowed Menominee to go into the North Eastern. They tend to overlook the fact that Ironwood is part of the Indianhead for all of their sports sans football (part of the soon to be disbanding Gogebic co-op).
