"Hall of Famer Lou Brock, one of baseball’s signature leadoff hitters and base stealers who helped the St. Louis Cardinals win three pennants and two World Series in the 1960s, has died. He was 81.

Brock stole 938 bases in his career, including 118 in 1974 — both of those were big league records until they were broken by Rickey Henderson.

Brock’s death came after Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver died Monday. Brock and Seaver faced each other 157 times, the most prolific matchup for both of them in their careers."

I grew up in St Loo.
A southern town.
A heavy Italian population.
Ernie Broglio (an Italian) was a HEAVY fan favorite.

When the Cards traded Broglio to the HATED Cubs, it was not well rcvd.

I was at Brocks 1st game as a Cardinal.
At Sportsmans Park against the Pirates.
Brock was announced late in the game as a PHr.
He was greeted with a smattering of boos.
He singled home a run and the rest, as they say, is history.
I met Mr Brock and I have his autograph on a ball in my man cave.
It sits next to Stan Musial, Ken Boyer, Dizzy Dean, Bob Gibson and Red Schoendienst.
Mr Brock was as nice a man as you could ever meet.
Brock, Stan Musial and Ken Boyer are my favorite all-time Cardinals.
