Get this freakin monkey off our back!

"YOU WANNA BE THE MAN, YOU GOTTA BEAT THE MAN!"

2 of 3 is a frankly a must!
A sweep closes the deal!

I want this more than any of you could know!

Today's starters;

I'm not sure a sweep is a must Road, but 2 of 3 would do it.  Actually, avoiding a sweep and getting 1 of 3 has to happen.  Not the best case obviously, but that still means a game up with 3 to play.  I am anxious to see how this bullpen game plays out tonight.  I don't know if I really care for the idea - maybe that is because of Jennings starting.  Will Jennings only face Carpenter to start?  With the rest of the Cards lineup being righties, gotta think he is only going to face him.

I would have thought Corbin Burnes would have followed him, but after pitching yesterday, maybe he isn't available.  The danger of using the bullpen is if it doesn't work and Counsell goes through 7-8 guys, that will handcuff him tomorrow and Wednesday.  It is almost like tonights game is a must win game and a lot of eggs are going into tonights basket.  Worst case will be losing a 2-1 game and having used Hader, Jeffress, and Knebel.

I did NOT say a sweep is a must.

I said " 2 out of 3 is frankly a must."

I believe that.

I hope this isn't a trial for a strategy that they are going to use in a wild card game.  The Rays have done this over 50 times this year and one thing they found is that using relievers without prior starting experience did not work as well.  If you are going to go all  bullpen then start Hader and throw him for 40 pitches.   Does this also mean that Chase Anderson is done for the year now?  Would they trust him to start in a meaningful game against the Tigers this weekend or in a playoff game if they get that far?  In all probability if they don't win this series, then the Cubs will probably have clinched the division and the series against the Cardinals this weekend will be meaningless for the Cubs.  The Cardinals will then have home field in a wild card game if the Brewers and Cardinals end up tied.  Get swept and then you bring the Rockies back in play.   I'm also worried about burning up the key relievers and losing somehow and not having them available for Tuesday.

I meant to just re-affirm your point Road.  I didn't do a good job of that.

Lets just not see a Card sweep and end up back in St. Louis next week.  Braun gets things off to a good start.  That was a bomb he hit.  If that guy could put together a week like he has in the past, this thing could be wrapped up Wednesday.

Jennings did the job to start and got Carpenter, but we will see how this plays out.  Right now, Peralta has looked good, but he may be done after going an inning and 2/3's.  I am skeptical to say the least.  Hope it works.

If you start Jennings to neutralize Matt Carpenter, then why do you let Freddy Peralta face him with a man on base?   Brewers getting too cute for their own good.  Now they only have two left handed options left in the bullpen in Cedeno and Hader.  Cardinals still have Matt Adams on the bench who you don't want up there against a right handed pitcher.  Just start Peralta then and save Jennings where he can be used in a higher leverage situation.

I was thinking the same thing.  Makes no sense at all.  Put him on and get the next guy.  Hader though gives up a home run to Ozuna and Martinez, so this is going to be one of those nights it feels like.  This is going to be one of those series that literally is going to go inning by inning.  Counsell is going to have to do a good job of making moves these next few nights.

Whether you agree or disagree with the strategy the Brewers went with tonight, they had what they wanted, which was a two run lead with Hader on the mound in the sixth inning.  Unfortunately for the Brewers, tonight was just one of those rare nights that Hader just didn't have his great/good stuff and the Cardinals were able to get to him for three runs on a pair of HR's.

With that said, the offense has done a nice job working some quality at-bats to re-take the lead and the rest of the bullpen (Guerra, Cedeno, Burnes) have put up zeroes thus far.

Very nice win against a very good team!

Well done Counsell!

On my way to go out on lake Michigan on a USCG patrol boat.
Then come home and grill some burgers and get another WIN!

Magic #=3 for top W/C.
Cubs haven't clinched yet either.

Brewers are throwing Gio Gonzalez
Cardinals send Austin Bomber

Well, a Brewer win tonight and a Cubs loss will really make things interesting.  Last nights win was kind of a gift with the Cards defensive issues late in the game and the Brewers surviving an off night from Hader.  Guessing Hader is not available tonight, but everyone else should be.  A good solid start from Gonzalez would be awesome obviously and if he could get through 6 innings, that will leave the bullpen in good shape tomorrow and Counsell could go all in for that win.

The Cardinals for whatever reason intentionally walk Cain to get to Yelich.  Bwahahaha, How dumb could you be?  And he makes them pay with a three run bomb.

What a game!
Yelich pretty much is the MVP, but we'll see how the votes go.

His numbers are Dimmagioesque!
(He even looks like him)

The Brewers throw Chacin tonight.
The Cardinals send Gant to the mound.

Magic # for playoffs is 1.
Right now Colorado is ahead of the Cardinals in WC race.
So when they go to Chicago they will be fighting for their playoff lives.
Interesting development!

Brewers have 4 games left with Thursday off.
Cubs have 5 games left.

Cards & Cubs in WC game to see who plays in Milwaukee!

It could happen.

I like it!

Talk about finishing strong! And this offense is starting to click with all the new pieces that are in place.

As you laid out, things get really interesting with a handful of games remaining. This is when things get really fun!

On another note, can someone tell me what the Brewers record is since June 1st?

Brewers were 36-21 at the end of May, making them 55-46 since June 1st.

They went 12-13 in June though, so they are 43-33 since July 1st.
