2 more wins, Brewers are in!
Cubs are 4 back with 6 to play.

I think the Brewers are hungry!

Keep them whoopin' sticks working!

Adrian Houser vs. Sonny Gray

It's amazing.
I've been pretty steady here all season and read all the complaints and insults about;
Starting Pitching
Bull Pen
Defense
Hitting
General Mgr
Field Mger

Piss Poor Minor Leagues (Hiura & Grisham & Spangenberg)
Even worse F.A signings (Gamel, Moose, Grandal)
Trades (Lyles), Pomerantz)were disastrous (we didn't get Kimbrel!!!!!😱)

And on and on.

How the 🇭🇪🇱🇱 did they get here????

Lyles is going to close it out tonight!
What an awesome season!

I am one of the detractors. I was saying sell at the deadline.  I have no idea what happened that after 5 mos of .500 ball they put this run together. I would ask why couldn't they just do a little more in those 5 months like win 1 more game per month and they'd be hosting in a divisional series or win 2 games in those months and we'd be talking about winning 100 games.  For as good as they have been, the Cubs have been the opposite, so there's that.

I do have my reservations about how they fare in a 1 game WC and without the expanded rosters and some of the other things but I'll save that for off season threads and instead enjoy the ride.

In regard to Lyles, did I miss something that they saw and adjusted in his mechanics or the like when they got him again that he's been so effective? I don't recall seeing any such thing but he certainly is a different pitcher.

I do like the increased number of bunts and sac bunts CC has used lately. Subero getting hit with a throw was odd and probably cost them a run.

I heard an interview with Grandal.
He said is was pitch sequencing.
I forgot to mention Pomerantz!!!

Maybe Grandal is better than we thought?

Grandal was known as one of the top 2-3 offensive C in the game and great pitch framer.  His D is at least avg or better so he's not hurting them on that side of the ball.

I won't be able to find my post (it's in one of the series threads) but around last year's trade deadline I mentioned take a look at Pomerantz as a target for the Crew last year as a spot starter, opener, mid-inning, long relief type guy. He had been really good in 2017 and pretty good prior to that but having a bad 2018. He would not have been a rental and seemed to fit the mold of what DS likes in guys and a lefty at that. Anyway, I'd like to think the Crew could keep him around for a few years but we'll see.  Pomeranz, Knebel, Hader on the back end next year would close out a lot of W's.

Seems like guys have stepped it up and CC has pushed all the right buttons lately. Losing Yelich has actually made room for Grisham and Gamel to both play. Seeing this team in the last 2 weeks has made me wonder what this team could do if they played this well for longer stretches in April-August?

One thing I am most surprised at is Peralta's velocity. He's a guy known for living up in the zone with a low 90's FB and all of a sudden he is hitting 96. If he could command the ball a little better he could be a huge piece next year or maybe wildly effective is going to be his thing. It will hurt at times but also could make him effective at times.

Win 1 more, reset the rotation and rest who you want for a WC game and beyond.

Good Gawd, did you see that GS he just hit?

And Thames?
Why is he even in the bigs!

God I love this game!

What a great September.  The contributions from pretty much every guy on the roster has been pretty fun to watch.  I hate to be a Cubs fan, but if they could ever find something to end the season and get 3 from the Cards and help the Brewers to a division title, I would almost like them more than a stick in the eye!

Moving ahead, setting up the starter for next Tuesday begins tomorrow.  There are really two choices it seems - Woodruff or Lyles.  It is a tough choice for me, but I think I would leans towards Woodruff at this point.  He should be able to get through 5 innings and I think CC would love to use Woodruff for 5 - then Pomeranz for 2 and Hader for 2.

Why it took this team until September to play with some urgency is something we can debate later.  Right now, it is fun to think we will see a post season game next week with the Brewers in it.

1 game out.
3 left to play.

Holy Schnikees!

We have won the last 7 series I've started threads on.

21 of 25?
I've never seen anything like this.

Do I go for 1 more?

Don't stop now, Stan !

I can hardly stomach rooting for the Cubs this weekend, but one must do what one must do ...  wondering what kind of effort we will see from the Cubs in this season-ending series for them ?

Is Joe Maddon gone ... heading to the Padres, perhaps ?

That seems like Bochy's job again, if he wants it.

If Maddon goes, he'll do a year on Fox or ESPN.
