By the way, remember the 250,000 to 1 million people they said were going to show up in LA to celebrate this incredible icon? Yeah, not so much. It was under 50,000.

I don't think anybody saw the sense in standing outside on a presumably hot day to blankly stare at the outside of the Staples Center, seeing as how they weren't showing it on screens, as they initially said they were going to.

man i swear i had posted somethin on this. maybe it got deleted? anyway, i congratulate the city of LA for doing this spending only 1.4 mil. We all know the history of LAPD and there tactics so on and so forth. this time they got it right. they told people not to bother coming, to watch at home. To broadcast it outside would have meant large crowds, and crowd control, which leads to anger, which leads to bad things happening. It is proven that you will do something in following a crowd that you would not do otherwise. They shut down the 101, and had tight security around the staples center.

the thing here is this: they were going to charge admission of 25$---peope had a HUGE uproar. i agree paying to go to a memorial service is a little strange, but do NOT then complain about how much it cost the city when 25$ x 18,000 people would have cut about a third off of the cost.

and i still stand by my earlier statement that he deserved it. people wanted this, the fans wanted this, it was a very respectful event that was classy and well handled.
