Now that there's only one football team left for the Middle Border, and basketball practice starting Monday... what does everybody think about this upcoming season? Conference standings?

1. Somerset - Elmore and company should make a nice run this year
2. Baldwin - if Weyer stays healthy, this team should finish in the top 3 easily
3. Prescott - Seiffert can be streaky, but should lead his team to a top 3 finish
4. New Richmond - ???
5. Osceola - ???
6. Ellsworth - ???
7. Amery - Could surprise some teams
8. Durand - Durand doesn't return anyone that played more than a handful of minutes per game last year. It could be a long season for the Panthers.
Christian Ponder? ...never heard of her

1. Somerset will finish on top of the conference behind Gaelin Elmore who will command the paint and Jack Emmert who dropped 44 points this sumer on Jason Balts in Rice Lake according to one of his teammates. Also have a nice 3rd option in Austin Wodarz who will surprise many.
2.Prescott will come in second baring injury to either Clay Seifert or Charlie Tayson. They also have a solid guard in Michael Brookshaw who maybe the only one quick enough to stay with Logan Weyer in the conference.]
3. Baldwin should finish in the Top 3 with their gaurd play by Logan Weyer who maybe the hardest matchup in the conference and good shooting from outside by Gerrits.
4. Ellsworth will finish 4th because out of all the teams left Christian Kulow is the only player who is an established scorer in the conference and have a few players with experience at the varsity level that the other teams just don't have.
5.Osceola has Trevor Pauley and Marc Johnson-Trice will keep osceola competetive
6. New Richmond doesn't have much experince coming back but has a nice core group of under-classmen.
7. Amery has Jordan Luehman and company will be competetive and could honestly finish as high as 4th
8.Durand virtually returns a completely new varsity team this year with basically no experience so it will be a rebuilding year in Durand just getting the kids feet wet.

But then again I'm biased being from Somerset[8d]

Somerset - Elmore's size and quickness for his size will cause too many matchup problems for the competition.
Prescott - Seifert will have to step it up once again especially with less of an inside presence without Jacobson.
Baldwin - Logan's good.
Ellsworth - Kulow will score, will need to find other pieces.
Amery - Jordan Luehman is a great kid and probably the most experienced in the conference. He'll get his guys to play hard and win some games.
Osceola - Trevor Pauley will compete.
New Richmond - It's hard to put such a winning program at 7 but I just don't see success for this young team this year.
Durand - The first year coach last year was spoiled with talent and he'll have to get his own program started this year, basically from scratch!

Good luck to all the teams!

Durand with the early upset of what I thought would be a pretty good Barron team? any first hand reports of what happened there?

No Balts for Barron.

Going to take the Home town Spartans this year. Elmore and Emmert with four years of varsity experience should make the difference late in games. a veteran Coaching staff will also be in the Spartans favor. It would be nice to see the Spartans Sweep the neighboring Tigers....I am going to take Prescott for second and BW for third followed by the Durand, ? Nr and Amery and otown bringing up the rear. Go Spartans!

not enough discussion about teams and how they are playing yet this year. Makes it hard to make the picks in the pick em thread.

Is Kulow back and 100%

Heard Weyer was going to be out with more concussion symptoms and then he played.

what else is going on out there?

Kind of hard to really determine how a team is playing when most have played 2 games. Is Thursday's game Somerset's first of the season?
St Croix moved to Minnesota. He is now dead to me. R.I.P.

Yep, Somerset's first game. I haven't seen a MBC team yet so have no input about OHS or anyone. I have seen a Chicago Lakes game but that is a whole different story. Still getting used to halves instead of qtrs. I kind of like that.

was at the Somerset/Osceola game last night. Somerset looked like it was their first game. Guys still figuring it out. Had a good stretch in the third quarter and built the lead up. Not a great shooting first half. Osceola hit a couple 3's late in the 2nd to make it close at half. The constant pressure might have wore Osceola down a little bit.

No MJ-Trice (i think that is his name--Plow's kid, for those of you that know him) for Osceola-- sounds like his knees are bothering him too much to play, he isn't even on the roster

interesting to see Forrest Larson listed as an assistant coach for Somerset-- he was not on the bench last night tho.

Osceola looks like they will have some guards to be reckoned with in a couple of years- a couple JV kids looked pretty good.
