Just got back from the Middleton and Homestead game. Here is alittle recap:
First half the game was played rather even with the score being 21-14 Homestead. First drive Middleton drove on the ground at will against Homestead and capped off their drive with a touchdown, forgot who score the touchdown, however it was a run play. Homestead's first possession they could not run the ball on Middleton, however Homestead went up top and hooked up with Mike Collins who scored one of his 5 touchdowns on day (3 through the air, 1 on a kick off return, and 1 on a run). First half overall, neither team could run on each other besides Middleton's opening drive, and after that Homestead made the defensive adjustments and shut down, for the most part, Brooks Braga and Middleton. Middleton stuffed the run the entire first half and the entire game.
Second half, I would say that Middleton had the momentum having played a great first half against the "favored" team and played them tough. Stopping Homestead's drive with an interception to end the half. Homestead took the moment away by taking a kickoff back for a TD (by Collins). This was a back breaker as Middleton was starting to make a push. After that Middleton was kind of on their heels trying to play catch-up, while being forced to get out of their game plan of running the ball, which they didnt do very well thanks to the Homestead defense. Simon (Middleton's Head coach) made a great call to get middleton back into the game with a hook and latter which Brooks Braga high stepped into the endzone. After that, Middleton was picked off a few times and lead to the final score of the game by Collins once again on a end around for a 3 yeard td.
Ryan Groy #79, 6'6" 300- (badger recurit) played well on offense. Got of the ball very well. Beat his man on most all run plays however was beat off the edge a few times on pass plays by Homestead's Ben Gardner #49. Played some defense on goal-line/short yardage situations was double teams but got a good push up field. definitely a G prospects.
Shelby Harris #89, 6'3" 240- Did not do a single thing from what I say. It looked like he took alot of plays off did not get much push up field as he played inside at DT most of the game. I believe he made 1 solo tackle and 1 or 2 at most gang tackles. Was not impressed by his performance THIS game. This does not take away from his career or his season just was absent out their today. It happens.
Mike Collins #17, 6'1" 180- Was the most impressive player out their. He was unstoppable on pretty much every pass. He burned the Middleton db's almost every play especially on deep fly patterns. He scored 3 TD's on 3 bombs where he just beat the DB. He scored a 99 yard kickoff return, and a 3 yard end-around. He was impressive!
