Of course, there was controversy...

According to Stratford coach Jason Tubbs, this was a jump ball in the end zone that the Stratford defender came away with, but the official ruled it a catch by the Amherst player. *shrugs*

I wouldn't call it controversy, but the play could have been ruled an INT easily.  Think of the fail mary play basically.  WAOW TV had an excellent video of it.  Play starts at the :25 mark:

That being said, Amherst definitely gave them a hell of a game.

Stratford Head Coach Jason Tubbs has every right to be upset.  His defensive back picked off the pass, came down with the ball with both hands & arms around it, only to have the Amherst receiver attempt to wrap his arms around the ball in the DB's arms once the DB was on the ground.  It wasn't anywhere close to "mutual  possession."  The TD call by the back judge was a travesty !

Seems you need a better angle on initial possession on this play.  I see you've made the same mistake on two different threads.

*shurgs* as it really doesn't matter - it didn't affect the outcome of the game, and if Stratford's defense wanted to maintain their scoreless streak they shouldn't have allowed Amherst that close to the endzone in the first place.

When I watch the video posted by tigerguy to me it looks like Amherst receiver gets initial hands on ball, and then in the process the ball gets taken by Stratford DB. Photo posted above only confirms Amherst receiver had it initially...

People do understand there is a process to making a catch and not just who had their hands on it first, right? 😆

Thanks to Zaleski Sports  , this video clearly shows the official you called TD was standing in the end zone within 10 feet after first looking for possession ... 5:30 mark

I would say 30 feet away with the Amherst players back blocking his view of the result of the play.

I wanna give a shoutout to everyone who participated in our weekly score threads this year. For awhile now it's been rather lean on Friday nights, and I know Twitter is the place to get scores, but I felt having a centralized thread is still important for discussion if anyone wanted to. Nice to see it be a bit more lively.

Thanks again to everyone who participated!
