The saga is finally over. The Bucks and Larry Sanders have agreed to a buyout and from what I've read, the official number is $15 million buy out, out of a possible $33 million, so he left $18 million on the table. That's way better than I thought.

I was wrong if anybody was reading the banter between trickplays diener and I on twitter. The cap hit is actually whatever the buy out is worth, so $15 million will count against the Bucks cap and can and will be stretched out over the next 7 years via the stretch provision (allows a released or bought out players contract to be stretched over 7 years once during that CBA stretch). That comes to about $2.2 million each year counting against our cap over the next 7 years which will be pennies with a new CBA and salary cap that is set to exceed $90 million.

I don't even feel like talking about it anymore, it's done and over with.

So salary-wise, the Bucks will be $12 million+ under the cap this summer which includes an $8 million cap hit for Knight and $1.2 million for Middleton. I expect Middleton to get at least $8 million a year and if we keep and extend Knight, he'll get probably around $12 million per. That leaves us just over the cap, so we could re-sign Kendall Marshall and our draft picks and probably that's about it which I'm fine with. We could also sign free agents, then extend our guys beyond the cap and pay the luxury tax, but it's yet to be seen if the new owners are willing to pay the tax. The test of that will be if they make a move to take on more salary during the trade deadline.

Are the Bucks better off absorbing more of that hit now that we won't be resigning Knight?

I for one am glad Sanders is gone. I thought it was a ridiculous signing contract when it came out
and it has proven true. I do have sympathy for him IF his problems stem from his health, be it
physical or mental.
I don't know why a guy with his resources resorts to 'weed' if he hadn't used it prior.
He can go to the best physicians in the country with the money he makes.
To 'use' weed for his supposed problems just strikes me as incredibly ignorant. I realize
he may well be that ignorant, but the Bucks should have been able to direct the guy in
the correct direction. It appears the Bucks did attempt that, yet Sanders still went his
own way.

He wont be the first guy to 'dope' himself out of the NBA and wont be the last.
The guy does have talent, I will give you that. Everyone on this site has probably played
sports with guys who had all the talent and tools, yet the decided alcohol or drugs was
the way for them to go. You cant always help people - people have to actually WANT to
be helped before you can help them.
