How are teams defending him this year.i know he has been going off lately.who matches with him in a man to man?
or are they tryin crazy stuff like box and one,tri and 2 whatever the heck all that sillystuff is.
i would think a good def team would just try and make him work like crazy for his shots.thoughts?

In the wbby summer tournamnet a team just maned him up tough, 1:1...held him to about 15 less points than in the other 3 games....he was very frustrated.

Mr. Pibb talk all you want but OHS is 3-0. How many CLC conference championships has your school one in the last 11 years.

Traditionally Oostburg has played a tough man-to-man defense, mixed in with some 2-3 zone, and occasionally another gimmick defense. However, the past couple of years Oostburg has played that 1-3-1 zone because it fit there personel. If your a good coach you play with what works. Also mrpibb why don't you go tell the teams who play Adams-Friendship that the 1-3-1 is a crap defense or that there players can't play man either. Maybe Weyauwega-Freemont uses that diamond press because they just can't play straight up man-to-man d; yeah right!

Oostburg will be tough for Lutheren but I would think that if Dekker could get going and then his teammates could pick up the slack Lutheren would be able to shred it. The best way to guard him is just to man up with an occasional double team and push him around. 2 years ago Elkhart played a triangle and two on him just to see how irritated his dad got. Lost but boy was it something to watch.

Hortsmeier from Rl held him to 11 points on Friday night but the rest of the team picked it up. His conditioning may be better but I bet he didn't do serious work in the weight room this summer. Like someone said you make him force his shot and he does get frustrated sometimes and throw up bad shots. But give him his do he is a heads up player and know how to put himself in position to score

ok, john dekker is a good shooter that no one can argue with, but if he would come to oostburg i dont' think he woudl stand out as much as he does at lutheran, he has to basically put everyone on his back and make plays, or make plays for others to get his team close in the game, at oostburg we have zimmerman and he gets alot of attention and doesn't put the numbers up like dekker becuase he doesnt' ahve to, but dekker has to if his team wants to win, so thats why he shoots so much not cuz hes a ball hog but realistically its what his team needs, zimmerman knows hes got the best supporting cast in the clc so he isn't afraid to dish the ball to swart for a trey or gro for a layup, so saying dekker shoots alot is true, to say he doesn't pass that much could also be true, but look what hes doing for his team, atop the clc with oostburg

Does anyone know how Dekker does when he plays in these big tournaments with better players. Zimmerman is a lot better player then Dekker but if he was at Lutheren he still would not have that many points. Team would probably also win less, but at Oostburg he helps them a lot more. Oostburg has some guys who can really play beside Zimmerman.

CLCBBFAN the player your referring to is Ryan Crye (sp) and he also did it with Leibham the year after OHS up by 20 or so and he is in the game with 15 seconds left. I am sure that happened everygame not just the Oost game. BTW love your comment on the matter. The reason he is scoring so much right know is that they want hijmn to break the City of Sheboygan Record at home. No one will catch Mike Koehler's record of 2600 some.

The game Dekker only had 11 in was against Random Lake.

It was the Random game BJ-North. I think that Dekker is a good player who can do a lot of things. Even if Bruggink was coaching Lutheren Dekker would still be scoring a lot more than Zimmerman is at Lutheren. Dekker is by far the best scorer on that team. Dekker has flaws but from what I hear has worked extremely hard on those flaws. I think that Coach Dekker has made himself and his son the laughing stock of the conference by the way he presents himself. I remember that Elkhart game and even though it was pathetic for Elkhart's sake I can't understand how Coach Dekker could be so upset by that. Oostburg and Lutheren should be an amazing game. Lutheren I think is a little under rated by some of the people on this board. Dekker is good but the rest of their guys are very good. If Dekker has put in as much work as some people I know say he is Lutheren could win this conference outright for two years in a row.

Lutheran didn't win it outright last year, they tied with Cedar Grove. Lutheran 13-3 t-1; Cedar Grove 13-3 t-1; Oostburg 12-4 t-3; Howards Grove 12-4 t-3.

Actually im not from Lutheran Im from Milwaukee..I just played on his AAU team and i bet his rating is higher than yours cause hes amazing......Also i wouldnt talk because you have no game compared to this guy...if you played one on one i bet you lose by a ton he can take you however he wanted to off the dribble, the pull up or any other move so just dont talk stupid and dont say things you dont know like where im from

Don't get into the whole rating bs. How many stars is John Dekker? Two, Three, or Four? That is all a bunch of crap. Lutheran has had several "standout" players over the years, guys who score a ton of points, show me championships, show me state titles, sectional titles, even regional titles. There aren't many there to show, it's a team that wins games not one player surrounded by "role players." If I played for Lutheran I would get a little tired of reading in the Press how "nice it was that I stepped up my game as a role player and got it done." I mean I'm suprised that John doesn't go 1 on 5 and beat teams. "It's so nice that the other 4 starters are even capable of dribbling a ball, passing, and playing defense." The way Lutheran has done things just gets under some peoples skin. A few games that come to mind are: 1. 2000 (I think) the first year that Lutheran and Christian joined the CLC. Lutheran vs. Oostburg, as usual Lutheran has a player averaging like 25 pts. per game (not Nick Liebham, guy before him but his name escapes me) Oostburg shuts him down and holds him to like 8-10 pts. Fourth quarter and with the game in hand Oostburg's starters leave the game, even a couple of SL take a seat on the pine. Not Mr. 25pts. per game, no he stay's in till the end of the game so he can get his points. 2. Another game that comes to mind is Oostburg vs. SL in the Regional final in 2003. Probably the best "team" that Sheboygan Lutheran has had in recent history, who took the shots at the end of the game? One of the seniors... no a freshmen who admittedly had played well, but was spent at the end of the game. 3. The last example is last year when Elkhart Lake chose to double Dekker the whole game and play 3 on 4. You would think that Lutheran would have been happy to come out with a big win... not really b/c then you can't keep the stats up.
