Of course he's better at judging talent. But what's the point of a message board if you can't voice your opinion?

As of now, JP has no idea what's going on.

Right now, it seems as if the guy needs a change of work ethic, needs his priorites set for his future, and has a lot of physical attributes he needs to improve. The only way I see him not becoming a bust is if he redshirts.

hoops: Or J.P. could be an all-American.
That's the point. No one knows. You don't know. I don't know. Heck, at this point, not even Bo Ryan or J.P. Gavinski know.
Which is why it's stupid (not wrong or IMO ... just stupid) at this point to say it's a wasted scholarship. Discuss freely how good you think he will or won't become, but to say it's a wasted scholarship already is dumb.

And everyone likes to talk about how lazy J.P. is. I don't know whether that's true or not, but even if it was, that won't be a problem any longer, or he won't be on the team. So you can rest assured work ethic is no longer an issue.

edcon: I see your point about redshirting, but the reason Ryan doesn't make the final decision is that can come back to haunt a coach, too. When the player makes the final call himself, he accepts the responsibility for it. So, down the road, a player can't gripe that 'That darn coach screwed me out of a year of eligibility,' or whatever.
That said, rest assured that Ryan and his staff provide plenty of advice and honesty when it comes to PT. So it's not like the freshmen are taking blind guesses as to whether it would be worth it to pass on a redshirt or not. They are given the necessary info, then the final decision is up to them.

And BTW ... J.P. will redshirt. Here's the MJS story, with a J.P. quote:

They went small to maatch-up with Carroll's quickness and run-and-gun style. UW played most of the game with 3-4 guards in at once.

People know an awful lot about how JP's playing. I thought UW's practices were closed to the public.

A lot of people have seen him through his 4 years of high school. Maybe they're basing his playing style off that.

I hope Bo realizes he wasted a scholarship.

Agreed, the kid isn't good at all, he has about 1 post move (a little jump hook), he isn't agile down low, and his foot work is terrible. I mean you can get through high school when your on an average night 4-5 inches bigger than your defender but thats not going to cut it in College.

Well, to paraphrase an old band director of mine (yes, I said band) ...

He ain't in high school no more.

Which could potentially mean...disaster.

It sounds like his work ethic is terrible, he's not the fastest guy, and he has a lot of work ahead of him.

Only time will tell.

Put a kid who has some beef on Gavinski and he folds.

And if it's possible, trade J.P. to Florida for a dozen lab rats to be named later.
