I got a completely bogus parking ticket today.

I've parked in the same spot and ignored the two hour parking sign for a year and a half and they never enforced it until two weeks ago, when I came out and there was a $12 parking ticket on my window. Fine, it sucks, but it's understandable. So I payed it.

Since then, I've been careful to keep it under the two hour limit. I had a final this morning at 7:45, and I parked in my usual spot. I finished my final and went home to study for my next one, at 12:15. I came back to that same spot for my next final and was greeted by a ticket when I left. This was still somewhat understandable because they don't know that I left and came back. So I called to explain.

The treasurer informed me that I can't leave and come back to the same spot in the same day, at all. So if I parked there for 1 hour and 50 minutes that would be fine, but if I parked there for ten minutes at 7 in the morning I couldn't come back and park there for 10 minutes at 6:00 that same night.

What a fricken joke. I'm taking it to court, $12 is a lot when your checking account has dropped into the double digits.

Plus, if this is the rule, why don't they explain that on the signs? The signs just say 2 hour parking, they are misleading.

lol its not like you have to hire a lawyer and stand trial. You just go in and argue it, if you win you don't have to pay if you lose, you pay the 12 dollars.

Pinetar does things right. Bring in a team of lawyers, counter sue the city, and lengthen the trial trying to crack the DA.

Like people said I just have to show up in a couple weeks, make my case and hope for leniency.

Just by taking it to court the city probably is going to lose well over $12 in wasted court time, even if Top Notch loses. So pretty much even if the city wins, they lose.

I took a $40 ticket to court once. they ended up dropping the ticket and dropping the court date because it would cost way more then $40 just to take it to court. It was a win win for me.

Top Notch, was this on UW-L Campus? I am curious if it is how you got away with it since they were always so intense about things when I was there.

Also, BuckyBacker, generally the winter parking regulations are on the street once you enter a city.
"Son, what are you doing sleeping in my daughter's dormroom?"

-"Its Saturday morning."
