Has anyone seen any of the GB Gambler's tryouts that have been going on at the Resch Center?

I'm asking because I haven't been able to watch very much of it. [:%] I see this past weekend they had open tryouts. There were 6 teams that consisted of 18 players (Each team had 2 goalies, 6 defensemen and 10 forwards). One team had an extra forward (19).

The skaters were from all over the country. 2 came from Swedish Leagues, few from Manitoba, Canada, all types of hockey programs such as the Florida Eels, Apple Core, Jersey Hitmen U-19, Culver U-16, Russell Stover U-16/U-18, Culver Prep, Penn Enforcers, Musk. Catholic Central HS, Dallas Stars U-18, Philly Little Flyers, Brockville Braves, Mahoning Valley U-18, Boston Jr. Shamrocks, Chicago Fury U-18, Detroit Belle Tire U-18, Team Illinois, Duluth East HS, Lansing AAA, etc.

I went ahead and documented those players who were from Wisconsin programs that were at the open tryouts:

Team Orange
Jordan Lehr- Goalie (Green Bay/GB Jr Gamblers)
Ross Pavek- Forward (Green Bay/Notre Dame & Team WI U-16)
Peter Maric- Forward ((Milwaukee/Milwaukee Jr Admirals)
?
Team Gold
Adam Seipel- Defense (Hartland/National Sports Academy)
Noah Nelson- Center (Oconomowoc/Madison Capitals U-18)
Zachary VanderVeldt- Center (Waukesha/Milwaukee Jr Admirals)
Kyle Ver Woert- Right Wing (Cedar Rapids, IA/Madison Capitals U-18)
?

Tony Kujava- Goalie (Green Bay/Notre Dame & Team WI U-16)
[/U]
Team Navy
Ryan Lehr-Defense (Green Bay/Green Bay Jr Gamblers)
Brock Stahlke- Defense (Green Bay/Green Bay Jr Gamblers)
Nick Drill- Forward (Madison/Madison Capitals U-18)
Greg Ogard-Goalie (DePere/New Trier Green)

[U]Team Grey

Michael Baldwin- Goalie (Waukesha/Milwaukee Jr. Admirals)
Jose Delgadillo- Defense (Milwaukee/Milwaukee Jr. Admirals)
Truman Landowski- Forward (Appleton/Milwaukee Jr. Admirals)
Marcus Zelzer-Goalie (Green Bay/Shattuck St. Mary's)

Congratulations to those who participated! If anything, attending this tryout will give them a measuring stick of where they are at as a hockey player.

I was able to get a roster of the main tryout that started this past Monday. Hopefully I didn't miss anybody, but 21 skaters from the open tryouts advanced to the main tryouts (2 goalies, 10 defensemen & 9 forwards).

I know they have 2 more games (6pm & 7:30pm this evening). If you go, don't do what I did.... Throw stuff out on the ice, taunt one of the goalies, throw food at the coach on the bench and get into the fight with security. I can't get over how soft they are here in Green Bay! (just kidding!!!! I didn't do that!! [])

I guess there where a lot of fights though....

Just wanted to pass along if you're in the Green Bay area:

On Wed June 17 '09 at 7:30pm Resch Center there will another "game" (appears more cuts coming after tonight's games), then a final game Thursday at noon. You can access the Resch Center via the parking lot off Lombardi Ave (Just past the Brett Farve Roundabout) enter through security door #2.

The following Wisconsin products were 6 out of the 21 who attended open tryouts and made it (advanced) to the main tryout camp:

Tony Kujava- Goalie (Green Bay/Notre Dame & Team WI U-16)
Ethan Nauman-Forward (Mosinee/ Mosinee H.S. & Team WI U-16)
Jordan Lehr- Goalie (Green Bay/GB Jr Gamblers)

Jose Delgadillo- Defense (Milwaukee/Milwaukee Jr. Admirals)
Austin King- Forward (Waunakee/Madison Capitals U-18)
Brian Kemp- Defense (Fond du Lac/Fond du Lac High School)

The main tryout camp also consisted of returning Gambler players, entry draft, futures draft and invitees. Let's see, what else....

Returning Gamblers are Christopher Crane, Fond du Lac native Sean Little, Steven Summerhays, Aaron Harstad (SPASH), Ryan Furne, Reed Seckel, Kevin Albers, Dalton Speelman, Nick Jensen, and Patrick McCadden.

Other Wisconsin players at the main camp are Wes Wauters (Ashwaubenon High School/Team WI) and Ryan Belonger (Green Bay/Team WI U-16).

P.S.- There is no "Brett Farve Roundabout".....not yet anyway!!!

Oh, I forgot to mention another Wisconsin product who was invited to the main tryout camp- CJ Eick from Appleton. Eick also played with Belonger for the Green Bay Jr Gamblers Midget AAA Team.

The past 2 games came down to 40 players who made up Team Lackey & Team Rogger. Each team consisted of 20- 2 goalies, 6 defensemen and 12 forwards. IDK if anyone out there in cyber world was able to watch the final games?

I wasn't able to [&o], but what I was able to watch of the main camp (which wasn't much), was some pretty good hockey! It had a little of everything- speed, skating, stickhandling, good passing, some good defensive plays, hitting, etc.

In one of the games I saw, Green Bay's Ryan Belonger scored which displayed some nice little "tic tac toe" passing involving teammates Zachary Lokey (Apple Core) & Petrus Sipila (Detroit Little Ceasars U-18).

Ashwaubenon's Wes Wauters had a good showing. I recall one time he was in front of the opposing team's net (with his back to the goalie) stick handling with 3 opponents swarming around him before he was able to pass it out.

Wauter's line scored this one goal which was a sight to see. Starting from their own end, a defenseman passed the puck out from the corner to Edina High School (MN) Anders Lee who was out high in the slot. Lee passed the puck over to his right to Wes Wauters, and the 2 skated through the neutral zone. (At that point it was a 2 on 2 if I remember correctly).

Just was Wauters & Lee crossed into the opposing team's zone, Wauters fed the puck back to Lee- although Lee was covered. However, Lee did a really nice drop pass to teammate Alex Broadhurst (Tm Illinois U-16), who came streaking behind from Lee's left. Broadhurst cut towards the net & slid the puck back over to Wauters who fired a shot down low on Kyle Laslo (Detroit Belle Tire U-18) and scored.

There was one fight in that period when the score was 2-2. Matt Stewart of Detroit Little Ceasars U-18 was on the same team with Wauters & Belonger. Stewart was taken by the Gamblers in this past year's Entry Draft. Stewart squared off with Connor Gaarder of Edina High School MN. (Majority of Michigan's top skaters play Midget AAA, while as we know Minnesota's play High School.)

What was "different" was it was really quiet in the rink when it happened. Usually that's when all the fans would be going crazy- but not in this case. I'm pretty sure it was Stewart who got Gaarder's jersey over his head when the 2 first dropped the gloves and squared off- but then the refs stepped in, stopped the fight, and pulled Gaarder's jersey back in place. Then let the 2 resume their fight!

Anyway they both landed some punches in a fight that actually went about a minute. Again, because it was real quiet in a situation where you would have vocal fans, you could hear the sound of knuckles hitting the face. The refs stepped in when one of the guys fells to his knees and you could see the 2 give this gesture to each other like "Good fight- way to be tough." They each got a "One minute roughing penalty!!!"

Later in the game, Wauters took a real nice cross ice pass, skated deep into the other team's zone, looked up like he was going to take the "bad angle shot," but instead while looking at the net, threw a nice backhanded pass all the way back to Nicholas Marsh (Det Little Ceasars U-18) who fired a shot from the top of the face off circle. His shot went over the shoulder of Goalie Laslo (Detroit Belle Tire U-18) for the goal (made it 4-2 at the time.) Laslo's only a year group '92. He looked pretty good out there and has a bright future.

Green Bay Notre Dame's Tony Kujava played in net on the same team with Wauters & Belonger. They won that game 5-3. I noted one nice save Kujava made when he found himself looking at a 2 on 0- Gambler's Nick Jensen beat the defenseman & passed it over to Levi Houlkes (Nijmegan Devils, Netherlands) and Kujava saved the shot by Houlkes at "point blank range".

I do know for the final 40 players left in the tryouts, Wauters & Belonger advanced. So did Milwaukee Jr Admirals Jose Padilla. As far as who else was left- about 11 were Entry/Futures Draft selections of the Gamblers, and 7 were returning Gamblers players (actually 8, but Fond du Lac's Sean Little was listed as injured). The rest, there were 4 from Detroit area Midget AAA teams, 1 from Sweden, 2 from a MN high schools & 2 from Shattuck St Mary's Prep, the rest various Midget AAA programs.

From here we'll see what happens. Again, would like to congratulate all the Wisconsin hockey products who were part of the try outs. Wish you the best this up coming season!

I'm not a "Know it all" , but hope this helps. They are a AAA hockey program here in Green Bay that started up about 4-5 years ago. (At the Midget, Pee Wee & Squirt level). Here is their website:

[link=http://www.jrgamblers.com/]http://www.jrgamblers.com/[/link]

Recently most of the local skaters have switched over to WIAA high school sanctioned hockey, with the top talent also participating in the Team Wisconsin before and after team. With some exception, the Jr Gamblers get /look for skaters from high schools who don't have WIAA sanctioned high school hockey.

At the Midget Major AAA Level, last season they were part of a league that consisted of 3 U.P. Teams: Ojibwa (Houghton), Marquette, and Sault Ste Marie. This season 2 more teams will join: Thunder Bay Canada and Shattuck St. Mary's (MN). Here is the league's website:

[link=http://www.northernlakeshockey.com/]http://www.northernlakeshockey.com/[/link]

About a year ago the U.P. teams got kicked out of their league that included the Detroit Area AAA teams. So this NLHL was formed & it appears they have some good showcase tourney's scheduled this year.

Are you a high quality defenseman? I know the Marquette Electricians just had their tryouts and are still looking for defensemen []
