How the AP has neither Milwaukee Washington nor Port Washington ranked is beyond me. And Brown Deer 6th in D3 is a joke. And Fall Creek unranked? And of all the teams to be a unanimous #1, Seymour is it? But hey, at least they finally got the two losses for Wausaukee correct, only took them 2 months.
The Packers/Badgers/Brewers are like your children; you don't love them because they're good, you love them because they're yours.

These are all valid points. But then again, how Marquette cracks the top 10 is beyond me. The Greater Metro is really weak this year...very atypical of that conference. 18-4 in past years playing in the GMC would warrant a ranking in my opinion, but they are a very average team this year. On the other hand, I have only seen a 8-10 D1 teams play this year, so it may be the entire division is down.

Completely agree on the GMC being way down. That's a nice Marquette team, but runaway conference champs? Ouch.

Overall, I think D1 is not as "potent" as recent years. This year's Germantown team is undefeated, but honestly I don't think they're striking fear in anyone's hearts. The Valley has a lot of nice squads, but nobody's really wowing. SPASH has a real nice core, but no one's gonna believe they're legit unless they win the whole thing.

The only top team that is probably better than last year is Milwaukee King, so this would be a good year for MPS to get off that 10-year schneid...but, the City itself as a whole seemed to be very "uninspiring," for lack of a better term.

A lot of people seem to think D1 is a three-horse race, I actually think it is wide-open.

That tells me that the rest of the area fell in line with the GMC then...What are the breakdowns of non-conference opponent divisions and conferences though? Were top-end GMC teams playing bottom-end teams from other conferences? There are a lot of factors that can go into deflating/inflating records. FWIW, I thought the Southeast and C8 were not up to their normal level either. Didn't see most of the North Shore. Could just be a case of more parity and less "elite-level" teams though.

As far as the simple eyeball test goes, I was not impressed by the level of basketball being played in the GMC this year in comparison to previous years.

Well, well, well, the GMC showing it's worth with three into the sectionals!

The C8 has one team in the sectionals...and it's cellar-dwellar Waukesha North...go figure.

So, by my count the 7th-place team in the GMC and the 8th place team in the Classic 8 made sectionals. That's the "magic of March" for you.

Maybe there was something about this high non conference winning percentage by the Greater Metro.

Greater Metro - NCWP - 71.9% - 46-18 - D1 - D2

D1 - 4 of 8 teams ranked by coaches or AP
Superior - not ranked vs Stevens Point #2 - #2
West Allis Central - NR-NR vs Marquette #10 - NR
Kimberly #7-#5 vs Germantown #1-#1
Madison East NR-NR vs Kenosha Indian Trail NR-#12

Did something happen to West Allis Central during the year? They were ranked #8 1st week.

D2 - 3 of 8 teams ranked by coaches or AP
Rice Lake - #6-#5 vs Merril NR-NR
Wauwatosa East NR-NR vs Greendale NR-NR
West De Pere NR-#7 vs Slinger NR-NR
Monona Grove NR-NR vs Mount Horeb #8-#6

Like we said before the tournament even started this would happen with the loaded regional and sectional that had Shawano, Seymour, Kaukauna, Ashwaubenon, Luxemburg, and West De Pere. West De Pere took out #3 and #10 in regional and #2 in sectional.

D3 - 4 of 8 teams ranked by coaches or AP
Xavier #3-#4 vs Valders #10-NR
Prescott #1-#1 vs West Salem NR-NR
Poynette #5-#2 vs Brown Deer #2-#6
River Valley NR-NR vs East Troy NR-NR

D4 - 7 of 8 teams ranked by coaches or AP
Unity #10-NR vs Regis #3-#1
Dominican #1-#2 vs Howards Grove NR-#14
Auburndale NR-NR vs Brillion NR-#11
Mineral Point #2-#3 vs Melrose-Mindoro NR-#12

D5 - 5 of 8 teams ranked by coaches or AP
Washburn #5-#7 vs McDonell Central NR-NR
Young Cogg Prep NR-10 vs Hustisford NR-NR
Port Edwards #1-#3 vs GB New Lutheran NR-NR
Shullsburg #4-#4 vs Hillsboro #8-NR

Anyone think Kimberly has a shot of beating Germantown?
I would love to see Lucky Wurtz make it to the state tourney. I am a bit
biased as he is a good friend of mine. He did some nice work turning
both the Laconia and Waupun programs around in the past. He is a bit
hyper and I guess that turns some people off, but he really gives it his all.

Not really, pretty much have had the same starting five all year.

Lost a lot of close games early and had some chemistry issues as well, according to Coach Mlachnik after the game.

It seems things took a turn for the better once they got Van Dulm integrated into the lineup.

I think Kimberly has its best chance to win this year. It has been a year of upsets.
